1. You got your musical start at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston (near your hometown of Reading) so how did that play into your Christian music career?
I did grow up in a wonderful family Reading, Mass., but we didn't know the Lord. I went on to Berklee to study music and it was during the end of my junior year that I came to know the Lord through a Christian classmate. That is when the song of my heart changed from hopeless love, pop-type songs, to having a passion to write worship music. I thank God for Berklee for that is where I came to know Jesus.
2. You were a youth worship leader at Seattle's City Church for several years where the youth attendance increased from 300 to 1,000 teens per week. Does that youth ministry still have an impact on your music?
This is a wonderful youth ministry at City Church in Seattle and it's called "Generation Church." I did lead worship there for several years and got to watch it grow under two great Pastors, Jude Fuquior and Judah Smith. I no longer live in Seattle, as I now call Nashville my home, but those early days of leading in worship for that youth ministry definitely shaped who I am today.
3. Once you dedicated your life to the Lord it led your father, mother, sister, aunt, and grandma to their conversions. Is this a part of your ministry on how a child's faith can have such an impact on an entire family?
It is pretty amazing how much God loves His children. A lot of people ask about this and truly all I can say I did was pray for them. I love to encourage people to keep praying for loved ones that do not know the Lord and more than anything, to let them see the love of Christ demonstrated through you.
4. How did you come to the attention of hot, new indie label Centricity Records?
I actually met the owners of the label at my home church in Seattle. They had seen me lead countless worship services and Youth Conferences. So the relationship began there and it continued from there. It is a joy to work with a smaller label, as it feels like a family!
5. Industry veteran John Mays, who is the A&R VP at Centricity and oversaw the production of your CD, has a wonderful reputation in Christian music. What was it like to work with him?
It is such an honor to work with John, not only because of his great musical background, but also for his heart for ministry. He challenged me to dig deep with the songwriting process and got me with some wonderful producers. Great man with a great heart!
6. Another thrill was when you toured with Point Of Grace on their Girls Of Grace tour in 2005. What were some of the highlights of that tour?
What an amazing fall to be out on the road with Point Of Grace, Rebecca St. James and Ana Laura on the tour. These conferences are so incredible. I love the fact that they are for teenage girls only and we address the real issues that they face everyday. Leading in worship for this was such a joy because I got to watch thousands of teenage girls connect with the Lord every weekend. My prayer is that we all grew in our walk with God as we worshipped Him.
7. Did your youth worship leader skills kick-in at these events and help you connect with the girls attending?
It felt like I was back in Seattle leading the youth in worship just minus the guys ... hehe!
8. With such a strong out-of-the-box reception to "Reason To Live," what are your goals for the future?
I would love to continue to grow as a worship leader and songwriter. I also feel there is a book deep down in my heart that has been brewing for a few years. One of my prayers is to lead worship in every nation!!
9. What is the message you want to convey with this album?
I pray that people will draw closer in worship to the Lord as they hear this CD. That's the most important thing to me. Whether people are driving to work in the morning or having some personal devotion time with the Lord, I pray the words would cause their hearts to yearn to worship Him and know Him more.
10) Who would be a dream artist to record with- any genre?
Chris Tomlin!!! I think he has an incredible gift of leading others in worship and writing songs that connect us to the Heart of God in worship.
