NAME:Roads to RomeTITLE:The Band
1) The band has such an interesting name, Roads To Rome, so can you give us some background on the name?
David: In New Testament times Rome was the center of the known world. Paul was called to take the message of Christ to the Gentiles. The journey's he took lead him to Rome. Like Paul we're trying to take God's message, through our music, and share it with the world.
2) Tell us how the group came together and who are the members?
R2R: The guys in the band are David Burch (drums), Kevin O'Neal (keyboards), Mike Musick (lead vocals and guitar), and Seth Marcum (bass).
Kevin: I met Mike four years ago at a showcase he was doing in Nashville. Soon after, Mike and I began to play music together. A couple years later we met David in Nashville through a friend of a friend. Shortly after, Seth came down from South Dakota and joined the fun.
3) Can you give us some background on the recording process of your first national release, "Love Rain Down?"
Mike: We spent about nine months recording "Love Rain Down." I had the privilege of working with some great co-writers on songs like "Love's Cry," and "Dying To Know You." It was a lot of fun to see the acoustic versions of our songs turn into the full production that we now love to capture in our live show.
4) Your first tour last year before your album was released was the annual and highly popular ShoutFest Tour where you shared the stage with Skillet, GRITS, and Seventh Day Slumber. Was that a thrilling opportunity for a new group?
David: Yes, it was thrilling. It was kind of like a good hang-out. It was also cool to get to know the other guys in the other bands.
Mike: It was great to have that exposure right out of the box. We made lots of new friends that we look forward to seeing again at ShoutFest this year.
Kevin: It was also very encouraging to see a lot of young people come to Christ at ShoutFest.
5) Roads To Rome has already started doing some benefit concerts through the band's charity, Kingdom United. Where have these tours taken place and who will Kingdom United be supporting?
Seth: Kingdom United enabled us to do several shows on the gulf coast to benefit hurricane victims and to encourage the volunteers who are helping with all of the rebuilding.
6) This was the group's first year to be part of GMA week. Can you give us some feedback about being there?
Mike: We interviewed with lots of media outlets and had the chance to meet lots of great artists. The band really enjoyed attending the GMA awards.
7) The reviews that have been coming in for "Love Rain Down" were strong out of the box. That has to be very gratifying for a new group with their new CD. Were you surprised by the early support?
Seth: We're very thankful for the great reviews we've been getting. We couldn't really anticipate what the response would be right away, but it's nice to know that our music is being well received.
8) "Alive In Me" is the first single from the album being released to radio. Can you give us some background on the song?
Mike: "Alive In Me" is a song about the resurrection power of Christ. The more I walk with Christ, the more I realize how weak I am as a human. My failures and weaknesses make me desperate to know Christ more. I don't deserve anything good from God, but because of His grace, His Spirit is alive in me.
9) Mike, you're a very talented artist as you co-wrote all songs on the new CD, play guitar/piano, and sing lead vocals. What area is most fulfilling for you?
Mike: Writing songs is one of my favorite things to do because it's like a creative and emotional release. A lot of the songs on "Love Rain Down" were born out of joys and struggles of my everyday life.
10) What does the future hold for Roads To Rome?
David: Hopefully the same thing we're doing now only with growing impact.
Mike: We feel like God is calling us to reach as many people as possible with our music. The most we can hope for is to remain faithful to what God is calling us to do.
