1. Please tell us how 2020 changed your relationships.
2020 changed my relationships because it forced me to become more creative, intentional, and honestly, more thoughtful. I had to put thought into creating moments of connection with family and friends. For example: My dad taught my girls how to make his famous strawberry jam over zoom… He was in his kitchen in Seattle and we were in my kitchen in Nashville, and though my dream is that he would have been able to do it in his kitchen with them, it was still (with just a little effort) a special moment that we created that my girls will never forget.
2. Share the most challenging part of the past year.
One of the most challenging parts of 2020 was that I was not able to get to Seattle to see my parents as often. That was extremely hard. It was also devastating to have tours and work cancel. But for me personally, the most challenging part was probably staying motivated. I would have moments where I’d want to do this or that… but after months of being at home and having the same environment and routine, it was just hard to stay motivated to do anything other than eat snacks and watch way too many episodes of Law and Order! Haha
3. Some really great advice you received recently was…
“Don’t allow the age of your flesh to determine the age of your spirit” - Pastor Henry Seeley
4. How do you continue to deepen your relationship with Jesus?
His Word. It might sound cliche, or like an easy answer, but His Word is everything. There are so many great ways to hear about the Bible - whether that’s listening to a podcast or reading a book on the study of Scripture - but NOTHING can replace actually just being in His Word day in and day out, and allowing it to speak to my heart and my mind.
5. You recently launched a members-only access into your life. Tell us about that.
Over the years I’ve enjoyed incredible engagement with the people who follow me on social media. They often ask questions about certain aspects of my life, and I began to notice a trend. A lot of them were asking the same questions. So I thought the concept of “This & That with Nat” would be a fun way to take an old fashioned “fan club” idea and level it up a bit. Much of the content is light and fun, but it also allows me to have in-depth and revealing conversations about things like marriage and parenting. It’s a place where I can post things that I wouldn’t post on social media and I get to throw in “A little bit of this… and a whole lot of that!”
6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?
As somehow who works with my spouse, I have deeply respected Louie & Shelley Giglio because they’re a couple that both my husband and I think have done it so incredibly well. They consistently exemplify what a great partnership in marriage look like. They support one another and they model what it looks like to co-labor with one another. Each of them operate in their own strengths, but neither one is ever dimming the other. They always build one another up. And I also really respect how they handle hardship and criticism. I’ve watched how they consistently stay above the fray and know how to keep the main thing the main thing.
7. What would surprise people most about you?
A couple of things that would surprise people about me is that I’m a really good cook. And I’m pretty incredible with numbers. To be honest, this may be an overgeneralization, but typically creatives are good at take-out and terrible at math. So I feel like that would surprise people! Ha!
8. What’s on your nightstand?
A Candle A Bible A book titled Bonhoeffer - Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy
9. What are you most excited about this year?
Finally getting to do my new music live.
10. What do you do for fun?
Family time is my favorite time… whether it’s a walk, playing a round of Uno, or watching a movie. Oh, and shopping. :)
