1. How in the world did you even get into radio?
I have a degree in Communications and spent over 20 years in radio and television sales. I learned the broadcasting side as well, but I was never on the air. I did an air check at WCQR to help the Afternoon Show Host at the time. A year later, I received an email from Adam McCain, asking if I'd like to co-host The Morning Show!
2. What's one thing you wish you had known about radio when you first started?
Like most things, it's harder than it looks…or sounds.
3. How has God pulled you out of your comfort zone?
God has pulled me out of my comfort zone in that I have to be open and vulnerable to thousands who listen. I've cried on live radio several times.
4. Some great advice you recently received is…
"When people show you who they are, believe them." This may be a famous quote, but I don't know who said it or when. I do know that a mentor at a previous job quoted it to me after someone had greatly disappointed me, and it speaks volumes about walking the walk and not just talking the talk.
5. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?
Going outside my immediate family, I had a college professor named DeForrest Jackson who I greatly respect and admire. He was more than a professor. He was a mentor. He saw my potential before I did. He gave me practical advice about work and life. I was in his class when a friend of the family came to tell me my father had died suddenly. He took care of things for me at school and days later, drove the 2+ hours to my dad's funeral service. He was instrumental in showing me how to care for others both professionally and personally.
6. What's one thing you try to do when life gets hard?
I am "on" so much of the time, that when life gets hard, I need to channel my inner introvert. I need solo time for me and just some quiet time where it is just me and God.
7. What's something about you that would surprise most people?
I was going to say that I have 7 tattoos or that I have been skydiving, but I don't know if that would surprise most people! I'll just say my past. I've never been arrested or anything crazy like that, but I wasn't always a follower of Jesus. I've known Him my entire life, but I've only been in a committed relationship with Him for about 12 years.
8. What's your go to song when the windows are down and you're driving on the highway?
"Faith" by George Michael. Yes, it's a secular song, but I was a teenager in the 80's and this song always takes me back.
9. In three words describe your ideal vacation.
Sand and water.
10. Tell us one thing that you bought recently that WASN'T on your grocery list.
A talking Clark Griswold doll from the movie Christmas Vacation.
