1. How in the world did you even get into radio?
Like many people in the industy I did some radio in college. But it wasn't until I was working as a promotions assistant at SPIRIT 105.3 in Seattle when I met PD Matt Stockman, who gave me a chance. He'd take time out of his day every Thurdsay to teach me the basics. I truly believe having someone believe in you can make all the difference when it comes to achieving success. Thanks to his belief in my abilities, I've been able to accomplish things I never thought possible. And now, as I progress in my career I try to pay that support forward by being a mentor and encourager for others because I know all the difference in can make.
2. What's one thing u wish you had known about radio when you first started?
Don't try to be like who you think a radio DJ should sound like – just be you.
3. How has God pulled you out of your comfort zone?
Being able to pray with listeners every night is also my favorite part of the job. I've realized that the conversations off the air are just as important as the ones on air.
4. Some great advice you recently received is…
"When you reach back - you stay stuck."
5. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?
In radio? Oh man, so many. The entire on air lineup at K- LOVE. Its an honor to work with so many pros everyday. Also – Sarah Taylor from SPIRIT 105.3 and Sam Kelly. Ashton from AIR 1 is not only one of my best friends but also a mentor when I first started nights at K-LOVE. He is one of the most creative people I know, he's sharp as a tac! I really look up to Mandy Young as well. She is an incredible on air talent but at the same time I admire all that she has accomplished in her career with EMF as she is now VP of Radio and one of the hardest working people in radio.
6. What's one thing you try to do when life gets hard?
Cry in my shower. You come out feeling clean interally…extenernally… I call that a win win.
7. What's something about you that would surprise most people?
I had a thumb operation right around the time I was learning how to read and write as a kid. Because of that I'm ambidextrous and can write with both hands. Not neccesarily at the same time… although that is a great party trick.
8. What's your go to song when the windows are down and you're driving on the highway?
"Atlantic City" by The Band or "Right Down the Line" by Gerry Rafferty. They both just sound better windows down, volume up.
9. In three words describe your ideal vacation.
Talk. To. Nobody.
10. Tell us one thing that you bought recently that WASN'T on your grocery list.
A Single slice of birthday cake that was practically waving at me in the bakery and no it was not my birthday.
