1. How in the world did you even get into radio?
I was about ten years old sitting around the breakfast table. My mom always had the radio playing. I fell in love with the music, the entertainment of the announcers and knew this was something I had to do when I grew up. Still waiting to grow up.
2. What's one thing you wish you had known about radio when you first started?
PREP! I learned early on that you spend twice as much time preparing for your broadcast as you do delivering it. You have a short window to entertain, inform, and encourage your audience. Make it count!
3. How has God pulled you out of your comfort zone?
Being a Christian in radio didn't always match up with my faith. I wasn't fully serving God with the talent he gave me. Moving into Christian radio was a big change, but God has been faithfully leading me. It's been the most fulfilling time in my career.
4. Some great advice you recently received is…
Take your time! Being from Boston, I spoke fast. We often miss an amazing moment simply because we are rushing to the next thing. Give yourself and your audience time to digest what you're saying. The long pause is a friend. Let what you say "print."
5. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?
My brother Steve. You can always count on him to give solid and thoughtful advice. He is the funniest one in our family and someone who sees the good in everyone.
6. What's one thing you try to do when life gets hard?
I try to get quiet and pray. That's not always easy, I tend to want to figure things out and fix them. Or I get on my bike and ride. God's peace takes my mind off the situation and replaces it with the surrounding California beauty.
7. What's something about you that would surprise most people?
I make the best homemade cheesecake you'll ever taste. My wife is the chef in our family, but when it comes to dessert, I rule the kitchen.
8. What's your go to song when the windows are down and you're driving on the highway?
I can only pick one? "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers, There's Joy in the "House of the Lord" by Phil Wickham and really anything you hear on 95.9 The Fish LA/OC!
9. In three words describe your ideal vacation.
Family, beach, laughter.
10. Tell us one thing that you bought recently that WASN'T on your grocery list.
Madeline cookies. They were quietly waiting for someone like me to give them a ride in my basket. How do you say no to that?
