This Is Who We Are (2006)1. Introduce the members of the band using personality traits.
David: polite
Neil: determined
Paul: adventurous
Matt: joyful2. Can you offer a brief look at how the band started and eventually signed with Tooth & Nail?
We met through our youth groups interacting together. We started the band in 1998 under the name Side Walk Slam. We played Cornerstone in IL in 2000 and Brandon Ebel, the president of Tooth & Nail, saw us there. We signed with them six months later. After three records under that last name, we changed the band name, added a guitar player and became Run Kid Run.
3. What's the message you hope to convey through the new album "Love at the Core"?
The overall theme is Love obviously but more specifically we want to have the love of God instilled throughout us. We believe that is the only thing that really speaks to people. We believe the world has tainted the word "love" making it perverse, jealous and corrupting what God's true love really is.
4. What is your favorite city/venue to play?
I love playing New York City, St. Louis and Seattle. Some favorite venues over the years would consist of the Pageant in St. Louis, Club 3 in Minneapolis or the McDonald theatre in Eugene, OR.
5. Is there any special story behind the radio single "Freedom"?
"Freedom" was a God-given song. I believe God gave me a visual picture I wanted to try and paint with this song. The song is written from a point of desperation and truth and because of that I think many people can relate to this song. Everyone has had that chain in their life that they hold onto when we as believers have already received this freedom that is rightfully ours.
6. What's your favorite song to play live?
Right now I would say "Love at the Core" but we're about to start playing "My Sweet Escape" and I'm sure that will become my new fave.
7. Was there a moment in the studio, working on the new record, that you thought, "Ah-ha! Wow. Now we have a record!"?
Well, when we were recording "Freedom" and decided to go back to the chorus and do a key change back, that was definitely one of those moments.
8. If you weren't doing music, what would you be doing?
Well I've always had a passion for dancing and performing with the arts, but honestly after this I would love to just lead worship at a church and still create music on the side.
9. Do you have much time to listen to other artists' new music? Who are you listening to?
The new Copeland record is really cool. Bob Dylan, "The Times Are A Changin," The Fray's new record, Starflyer 59's "Americana" and this new band Glasvegas.
10. Do you have any interesting or funny stories from visits with radio stations/folks?
One time in visiting a radio station, the DJ said, "By the end of this interview we need you to come up with a melody to these words and sing it on the air." A little more than nerve-racking. The best part is that the words were about a bunny. Oh, man talk about humbling.

2. If you could join any band, past or present, which one would you join?
