Disciple (2005)1) What were some of the band highlights from the past year or so?
Well, it has been an amazing couple of years. We had our first #1 CHR single with the song "After the World." We won our first Dove Award for Best Rock Album with "Scars Remain." And we had some major line-up changes about a year ago, so it has been a whirlwind of events.
2) What's the story behind the new CHR single "Whatever Reason"?
I really seemed to be consumed with the theme of "coming back to God" when I was writing for our new record. We had never written a song about the story of the Prodigal Son from Luke 15, and I really wanted to write the song from God's point of view to show God's deep desire for the prodigal to come home.
3) What message do you hope is conveyed on the new album "Southern Hospitality"?
I really hope that people will see God's love and faithfulness. Those are two things that a lot of people take for granted but they are worth more than all the money of the world.
4) Upcoming tour plans? What's on the books?
We will be going out with Kutless in early spring and Skillet in late spring.
5) As you were in the studio recording, did you have an "ah-ha" moment when you thought, "Now we have a record - and this is good!"?
Yeah, when we would listen back to the song "321," I thought, "We did it."
6) What's your favorite song to perform live?
I like playing all of the new stuff. A lot of times we play the same songs night after night, so it's like a breath of fresh air to get to play something new.
7) As you leave the stage, what do you hope the audience takes home with them, other than a CD or t-shirt?
We have always been committed to sharing the gospel of Christ from stage. So the most important thing I would want for someone to take away from a Disciple concert is a relationship with Jesus Christ.
8) Do you have any humorous or interesting stories from radio visits in the past year?
One DJ wrote a song called "Kittens in a Cloud" and we had to make up the music on the spot and sing it on the air. It was hilarious!
9) Do you have much time to check out other artists' music? What are you listening to right now?
Not really. I try to listen to new music as much as I can but most of my free time is with my baby daughter.
10) How did you get involved in Hard Rock's Pinktober event? How was the show/experience?
We were asked if wanted to be involved and those are the types of things that we love being involved in. It was great that night. Our original guitar player Brad Noah showed up and we played some songs with him so that made it a little more special.
