Avalon (1996)1) Avalon has been around for some time but you've had some changes in the line-up. Can you briefly introduce the band members using some personality characteristics?
Avalon has four members, each with strong distinct personalities:
Greg: our quick-witted, extroverted, football-loving, family man.
Janna: our classy, researching, pregnant piano player
Jeremi: our comedic entertainment
Amy: our classy, pageant-loving, make-up artist new member2) Tell us real quick about the story behind the current single "Risen."
Jeremi: Our new single "Arise" is such a song of hope. Everyone has a story of being bound by something. Sometimes it is past sin that we can't let go of; sometimes it's relationships; sometimes it's ourselves. Our hope is that we can arise, in Jesus name!
3) What message do you hope to convey through the new album "Reborn"?
Jeremi: Everything and everyone changes. We are all fragile. We long to be loved and to walk in our destiny. "Reborn" captures so many facets of human life: the questions, the answers and the hope.
4) What is the most surprising element, if you can pick at least one, about the new music from Avalon on "Reborn"?
Jeremi: The approach: most of the songs are male vocal-driven and feature an aggressive track. This album also has a retro vibe to it
5) Is there any song in the Avalon repertoire that you enjoying performing more than another? Is there a favorite song to perform live?
Jeremi: I love performing "Jesus Is Lord" from the first Avalon album. One of my favorite songs to perform live is "In Christ Alone" from the "Hymns" project. I love hearing people worship and singing along
6) How does having two married couples in the group change things for Avalon?
Jeremi: I think it makes decision-making easier. We already know what our spouse is or isn't going to like. I find it also to be a powerful ministry tool. Unity is a beautiful thing! We have had such positive feedback from our audiences.
7) After numerous albums, radio singles, tours, etc., how do you keep a sense of urgency about this life, career known as Avalon?
Jeremi: New venues, people, set lists, etc., help to keep things interesting. There are definite moments that you feel like it's only a job. God always has a way of proving his calling on why you have been chosen to minister these songs within the covering of Avalon. There is never a day I want to take his calling for granted.
8) Any funny, inspiring or interesting stories that you can tell us from your visits to radio stations in past or present days?
Greg: So we were finishing a week of promotion for a new record and, as you can imagine, were really tired from doing morning and afternoons in different cities. But the label asked us to postpone going home for a whole 24 hours to do an afternoon show in one more city....
9) What's ahead on the tour schedule?
Jeremi: We have a tour this fall with our friends, Selah. Check out www.avalonlive.com for more info.
10) Do you guys have time to listen to much music? What other artists are you listening to right now?
Jeremi: I am always listening to music. I love Ricardo Sanchez. I also love Christy Nockels newest record.
