BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
DISCOGRAPHY:
- Lost Get Found (2009)
- Say It (2007)
1) What are some highlights that you've experienced since the release from your debut record "Say It" to the new album "Lost Get Found"?
Even after two years, I still love singing the songs of "Say It" live and seeing how they connect. Especially "Don't Worry Now," the song I wrote about facing my parents' divorce, I'm amazed at how it has helped kids from all over deal with the similar situations. I'm still amazed at the opportunity to have this career and to see how music can impact people's lives. With "Lost Get Found," I love seeing how this is just about more than a song. This is about a message of people's lives being changed through music. The song is about having the courage to reach those who need to have Christ.
2) Do you have any interesting or funny stories to share from your visits to radio stations?
There are the rap battles with Wally from Total Axxess. Then there was a station I showed up at one station and there was a guy standing outside the window, wearing a t-shirt that said, "Britt + me = forever." The show hosts kept telling me that I must have some crazy fan and to not be scared. They kept saying, "We have no clue who he is. You must have a fan."
3) What happens between now and the end of 2009?
I'm currently on the "Revolve" tour, which I love and it has been amazing so far. I am blessed to be surrounded by amazing people and the impact on girls has been cool. That tour goes toward the end of the year. And then I have a music video for "Lost Get Found" coming out this month.
4) What's the story behind the new single "Lost Get Found"?
I wrote this song after a trip to the mall. There was a lady standing in front of me and I felt God telling me to talk to her. I kept looking at her and I watched her walk away and didn't reach out of her. I even watched her walk all the way down the mall. And I thought, "Why am I afraid? Why can't I do this?" I left the mall really discouraged and kept wondering what the lady might have been needing or if she was supposed to share with me? There was that and a conversation with a friend. This is about not being lukewarm but about being passionate for God and sharing love with others. It's about moving out of the gray and deciding to be real and passionate about our relationship with God and be willing reach out to people who need love, prayer or a friend.
5) What is the message you hope to convey through the new record?
I don't ever have a theme when I start writing but usually by the end of the album process, I see a theme at the end. As I listen to the whole record, I hear a record about being who God has called you to be. Songs like "Glow" and "Walk on the Water" are about doing the impossible and being who we are called to be as Christians. Be the city on hill and a light; don't be afraid to be that though it can be a lonely road to walk.
6) What is your favorite song on the new records? Can you pick just one?
That can change from month to month. It depends on whatever I'm dealing with in that moment. Right now "Hanging On" is really speaking to me, especially with "Revolve" tour. There is a Psalm that says we are fearfully and wonderfully made and God's thoughts about us are more than sands on beach. I think, "Wow, God, you love me and you say this although I don't always feel that way." It's really been speaking to me and connecting with girls at the shows.
7) Do you have a favorite song to perform live?
"Welcome to the Show" is the most rocking songs on the record. My band and I have a blast playing it live.
8) Maybe other than a T-shirt and CD, what do you hope an audience leaves with from one of your shows?
I want people to experience God. Often people leave a show saying, "I love that song. That was cool." More than that I want them to experience the presence of God, to walk out differently than came in. I have a heart for broken people. I love to see those faces as I look out, from the beginning to the end, to see facial expression change and know that they have met with God.
9) Do you have much time to check out other artists' music? What are you listening to right now?
I have been listening to Sarah Reeves quite a bit. It's in my CD player and I don't want to say that I'm too lazy to change it BUT really I love it! Every day I get up and I love worship music, and I love her songs. It's a good way to start the day. I'm looking forward to listening to David Crowder Band's new album. Since I've been working on a record, I haven't had much time but I've been thinking that it's time to get some new music.
10) Who would be a dream artist to record with and why?
I love worship music so Jason Upton. His music is different in terms of corporate worship but I have some experiences some awesome times with God while listening to his music. And I would say Natalie Grant.
