1) Catch us up on any interesting highlights since the release of "Manifesto."
After the release of "Manifesto" it seems that God allowed us the season of just continuing to make Nashville "home." It became incredibly busy soon after signing with Word Records and making the move to Tennessee almost five years ago, with little time to settle into the new surroundings. Now we've all found great churches and schools, our kids have adjusted, and it truly feels like "home."
2) What is the message behind your new album "More Than Noise"?
The message is simply that we would be the kind of believers who make "more than noise." That we would walk with a deep awareness of what it means to truly worship when all the songs have ended and the lights have faded.
3) What's the story behind the song "Alive"?
The song "Alive" is simply the short version of my personal experience with Jesus. At 17, I made a decision to give my life to him, and in the instant I truly came alive. Of course, it by no means made me perfect, but I have been overwhelmed by grace, kindness and hope ever since. Little by little he is shaping me into what he wants me to be!
4) Do you have favorite song or highlight on the new album?
At the moment my favorite song on "More Than Noise" is our latest radio single "Come As You Are." I absolutely love seeing people come face to face with how passionately Jesus loves us, even when we are at our worst.
5) Any funny, inspiring or interesting stories to tell from your visits to radio stations?
One of the coolest moments for me was when we were in the studio with K-LOVE and they played a song co-written with my daughter Madison called "When Love Whispers Your Name." Madison was listening from Nashville and I know that she was deeply touched as they read some e-mails from listeners in response to the song. It was an awakening moment for her as she realized how God can use all of us to affect other people.
6) Do you have an all-time favorite Pocket Full Of Rocks song?
My all-time favorite Pocket song would have to be "Let It Rain." I think it's because it's much more than just a song to all of us. The writing of that song marks a very profound turning point in the spiritual journey of this ministry. We truly were never the same band after the night of worship when that song was written.
7) What do you have coming up in 2010?
Travel, Travel, and MORE Travel!
8) Who inspires you personally, professionally and/or spiritually?
My Dad in all three categories
9) Is there any song (by any artist, any genre) that you wish you had written?
I've said it before and I'll say it again: "You Got A Friend In Me" by Randy Newman. Yep, I'm serious!
10) Do you have the chance to hear many other artists' music? What are you listening to nowadays?
Obviously, I LOVE music. I can usually find something that makes me smile in just about any genre. I seem to be the most inspired by singer/songwriters though. I think in the past six months I've listened to an amazing writer/artist named Ben Shive the most. And I'm also a big fan of Mr. Phil Wickham.
