Allow Yourself Time To Think ...
February 26, 2019
Have an opinion? Add your comment below. I've also been guilty of getting caught up in the gathering of materials to build an idea. It's addictive; hours can pass by scanning and saving to various folders. Collecting tidbits is no good if we don't stop to build them into a creative thought. Train yourself to put down the mouse or touching the screen and get to work on the creating something useful in your radio journey as a programmer or air talent

I bet sometimes you feel like one of those software cleaner programs, constantly cleaning out and updating. Smartphones are the hosts for our apps; the modern-day equivalent of the Swiss Army Knife. Apps have given us the ability to become multi-taskers and voice-activating couch potatoes. We can now snatch up every piece of information that catches our eye.
Urgency Of Now ...
"Real Time" in radio and audio media means the present becoming the past in front of our eyes instantly from moment to moment. We have multitudes of news and sports updates from a vast online media pool. New technology and delivery systems have turned what used to be "All Time" to "Real Time." We've got the "Z" generation who knows nothing about snail mail, rotary phones, roll-up car-windows, or pay phones.
The Dilemma ...
The acceleration which comes with today's "Real Time" is in direct conflict with the creative universe of radio. Mulling over something is a necessary evil with the non-stop influx of information; a person can spend an entire day gathering data every 15 seconds and never get a minute's rest to comprehend and apply any thought to building an idea.
You Better Think ...
Don't let the "Real Time," rush you into developing a thought. Discipline yourself to know when enough is enough. Make self-appointments to sort through things and organize; set up a process to explore creative ideas; and teach these methods to those you need to sit with and construct action plans. You will find this strategy more productive. Don't let your sense of "Real Time" acceleration blind you to the necessities of thinking, planning and executing. It's up to you to control technology and the waves of information it sends your way; don't short circuit your brain; slow down to take everything in.
I've Done It, Too ...
