Welcome back to Conversations With Kendall. Another trip around the sun we go. Usually time flies when you’re having fun … I think we can all agree that this last year hasn’t been exactly “fun,” nonetheless it flew, and I mean FLEW by. We blinked and it is 2021. However we got here, we are here!!
You know what a new year means--a new resolution. I love the idea of committing to improving our already fabulous selves at the start of each New Year! I hate to admit this, and I’m only going to because I know I’m not alone, but who else is a really great new version of themselves for like a week, a week and a half if you’re really strong, before you revert back to your true self? HA!! Don’t worry, I don’t think it’s because we are incapable of change or improvement, but more so because we tend to choose resolutions that are just not maintainable.
I challenge all of us to refrain from the standard unachievable resolutions like “I am going to cut out sugar” … or “I’m not going to drink alcohol.” C’mon people, let’s be real, three weeks in and we’re without a doubt going to be enjoying those mimosas at Sunday brunch. We’re eating that dessert after dinner too, who are we kidding--and I don’t blame us!! If this year has taught us anything it is that we never knew how much weight we could gain, LOL, but it also taught us to enjoy all the “stuff.” Life is short and unpredictable. Indulge!!
For as long as I can remember New Year’s resolutions have always been about cutting something out of our lives, it’s often about NOT doing something. This year, I think we should come up with resolutions that are more positively charged. We should be vowing to do/experience things that are going to truly enrich our lives. Perhaps our resolutions should be about DOING instead of not doing. This year is the perfect year to make time for exploring, playing, and getting outside. Without the distraction of entertainment, we are able to see our world stripped of all the fluff. Don’t get me wrong, I’m boujiee and I love, and I mean LOVE fluff, but because of my love for fluff, I hadn’t really spent very much time doing the other things that make me happy, things like surfing, playing beach volleyball, hiking, or even just going to an outdoor space for lunch. My resolution is to live like we are in Rona times even when all of this is over … obviously without all the mask weirdness, but everything else can stay. Finding joy in the simple things is what life is all about, and I want to live this next year and the rest of my years giving the little things the attention they deserve. So with that, I leave you. Happy New Year!!
