1. First of all, we send you and your family best wishes. We understand that you just had a bad fire in your house, is the family okay- and what do you need still? I also hear that all your gold record plaques were destroyed.
I never thought that the plaques really meant much until I saw them all gone, some hard work went into getting those plaques when I was a Rep for
Epic
2. Where are you guys living for now?
The insurance company is renting us a townhouse.
3. You moved to WSJR from KTOM in Monterey, prior to that however you were on the record side- what is it like being back in radio?
A lot has changed in radio and I am having a blast, I have even grown since
I got to Wilkes-Barre. I love adding the new artist and seeing the listeners react to hearing new music. There was no voice tracking like there is now when I left radio to go to records.
4. Do you feel that as a PD with record industry experience, it helps give you more empathy for the artists?
Very much so, I still hate hearing some stations won't see a new artist until they have a hit. We want to treat all artists well, but especially the new ones like they are stars when they come here.
5. What's the biggest difference in your approach as a programmer for you, after working on the other side?
One major thing that helped me coming from records back to radio, is listening to a lot of different stations around the country since I did three different regions in records. I listened to a lot of great radio stations first hand that I would never have had the chance to, being in one city or one region. Hearing some great-programmed stations helped me open up to some great ways to program. I took a lot of those ideas from stations I programmed and have used them myself.
6. How is the music shaping up these days? What are some of the new things that you really like?
Jason Aldean is awesome, so is Keith Anderson, Little Big Town, I love the new Jake Owen song "Yee Haw". Nashville should be proud of the new artist coming out now.
7. Would you move back to the record industry for the right position?
I am having more fun now in radio then the first time, I doubt I would leave again to go back into records
8. What has become less fun (more challenging) about the job since being in radio last and what is more fun now?
More corporate, but if you understand why we do things the way we do, you adjust to it much easier. Citadel has been very good to me and I like where I am right now.
9. Congratulations on being named to the CRS Agenda Committee, is this the first time for you? Why did you decide to get involved?
This is my second time and didn't realize how great it was until I left it. I love being in the process of how something gets made and done and wanted another chance to help out with CRS
10. What is left in the business for you to do? Do you still have a dream job?
I just want to be somewhere long enough in radio for people to take notice and say "He's a good programmer". We are off to a great start since being here at JR 93-7 (WSJR) the ratings are way up and it feels real good. Dream job, well let's just say it has to do with GOLF.
Bonus Questions
1. I bet winter golfing was a challenge in Wilkes Barre- did you go crazy?
Big time, first time since really playing golf that I could not play for a long period of time, drove me crazy!
2. What golf course that you have not played is a fantasy?
Any course in Hawaii.
3. What CD is currently playing in your car?
Rascal Flatts new one, it is awesome!
