Your Summer Umbrella
"The (Insert Dial Position) Days Of Summer" should have been taken out behind the barn and "put down" in about 1987. It really does mean anything. Something I came up with for KDWB in 2000 was "The Summer Of 10,000 Tickets". It's Minnesota. The Land Of 10,000 Lakes. There are a zillion concerts, fairs, festivals and other ticketed events. So 10,000 tickets is not an unreasonable goal. And it ties everything together that you do on the air. We also did "The Big Damn Summer". What do your listeners refer to June-August as? Summer Vacation. "(Station's) Summer Vacation" would be good. There are so many options. Why would you want to do something that is old?
There Is A Bit Here
One of my self-imposed job descriptions as Promotion Director was to create opportunities for the airstaff to have "quality time" with listeners. Because that stuff, done in droves, moves the needle. The Westin in Toronto has "Concierge On The Run": one of their staff goes jogging down by the lake every morning at 6:30 and invites hotel guests who are fitnessly inclined to join her. As opposed to running on their own. IF you have a jock who goes running every morning, this has "bit" written all over it.
And Finally...
A friend in Atlanta shares this with us. What an amazing cancept. Also goes a long long way towards insuring that your food drive doesn't get ignored by the media. Go to www.canstruction.com Essentially designers and architects take all the donated food and make sculptures and works of art out of it...before dissembling it and giving it to a food shelf. THIS is show business.
