CPR Promotional Check-Up - Mar 27, 2019
March 27, 2019
Have an opinion? Add your comment below. KS95 in the Twin Cities has a feature in the afternoon called "Are Your Smarter Than Staci" that is probably the biggest appt time contest in the market. A listener squares off against Staci Matthews to see who can answer the most correct of five questions. Brett Sharp at 94.9 Star Country does something similar but with music: Getting ready to start "Win Brett Sharp's Money." We hear a TON about this on the streets. People always say "I could've won your money." Always with the smack talking!!!

Whoops
In yesterday's piece I forgot to include the link to Z-102.9's drunk Mariah Carey promo for their "Precious" ticket giveaway that her fans found so offensive. I blame exhaustion, dehydration and an adverse reaction to prescription pain medication for my neglectfulness. Here it is. https://soundcloud.com/cprpromo/z102-9-mariah-weekend-cue-to
Station Composites
Looking at some of the promotions that agencies ask us to do, I wonder if they know anything about the particular brand. And being 1000 miles away, it's possible that the only knowledge of your station is what you've presented to them. Which is why you will often see Sales Managers go to New York and LA and go meet with the buyers annually to update them on changes in their marketplace.
Still, a meeting can never really capture the vibe and the essence of some of the stuff that we do. This 2014 video from the spectacularly cool Radiowave 96.7 in Windhoek Namibia does that. You see what they do in the station, out of the station and in the community and you get to see their listeners. The people who they're using 96.7 to reach. They did a great job. In Norfolk one of the talent produced a year-end recap for Coke a few years ago on his own. This might be a thing to do before 2018 fades in the rearview mirror.
Garage Sales
Peak in Boise was the first to debut the NTR concept of having an event where people could come and sell their (bad word) or buy someone else's (bad word). And it was huge. Big. KLUC in Vegas was the next to take a shot at it with similar results.
Cumulus in Colorado Springs are on year three of the promotion. There's a vendor packet for you to peruse. http://www.989magicfm.com/wligs-19/

We hear a TON about this on the streets. People always say "I could've won your money". Always with the smack talking!!!Songs that went gold or platinum on this date in history. Boomer has to research the songs and put together the clips, so it can be a bit labor intensive.
I leave the room, Boomer takes 12th caller and plays 5 second snippets of songs. They identify the artist. There are 5 total clips.
Only about 1 - 2 songs are actual country songs, which makes it interesting, but we can't control which songs go gold or platinum. There are only so many country songs.
I come back in the control room and he plays the same 5 clips for me.
If they get more correct than me, they win my money. BTW, if they tie me, they lose!!! They have to beat me to win my money.
If they lose, we add more money. We do $20 per day. $1200 contest for the 12 week ratings' period.Great break killers from 8am to about 8:20am, between songs. And again, we hear more about this feature than almost anything else we do.
And, listeners can play along in the car. -
