A Group Contest Name That You Might Not Have Heard
It's not "The $1000 Free Money Birthday Text", but what is? From Rock 96.9 in Fredericksburg.
Sell. This.
This was a random observation that Brad Michaels at 99.1 Hits-FM in St. Johns had on Thursday: on Monday's you will often see an influx of "I got engaged!" shots on social media. Elizabethany from Hot in DC added some thoughts to it and it starts this morning. (That was easy).
Once a month they'll invite listeners who got questions popped to them, to post their obligatory "hand shot". One will be picked for a prize geared at a couple, like dinner or tickets. Or dinner and tickets. Being sold as-we-speak as "Give Us Your Hand".
Sell. This. Part 2
Most of you have casinos in/near your market. They have money and they usually love radio.
"Las Vegas" is the world's largest, continuous Skinner Test. They've researched everything from colors to smells to having backs on stools at the slots. And one of the things they discovered a long time ago is that people are more comfortable with committing to and doing something, if they feel they know how to do it or how it works.
Which is why the casino industry has often done gambling clinics. They're not afraid of teaching people how craps works because the odds are still in their favor and once a person feels like they've figured it out, they'll probably be there at the rail with some chips, test-driving their knowledge.
So, the next time a casino says "We want a promotion", ask them to lend you a croupier and some space and maybe some apps for a "How To Play (Game)" session with some listeners.
Stranger Sings
myTalk 107.1 in the Twin Cities and Z-102.9 in Cedar Rapids both did amazing spins on "Game Of Thrones".
"Stranger Things" is a phenomenon. And you can do fun stuff with these kinds of programs. "Survivor" gave us a decade of contest methodologies. Ditto "American Idol" saw the rebirth of Radio doing talent contests.
What if you just went out and approached people at things like fairs and festivals, stuck a mike in their face and rewarded them with a prize for being able to warble a hook from one of your Powers. As evidenced by William Hung, bad singing can be as entertaining as good singing.
Instahunts
