The First Of July
Now, in Canada that’s Canada Day, but what if you chose to designate that as First Responders Day in your market? It’s a Wednesday so perhaps do food deliveries and other tributes to fire, police and medical units who have been working in extraordinary circumstances since early March.
The 4th Of July
102 Jamz in Orlando, well into their 14 year run at #1, did a 4th of July campaign where they had listeners call in and record messages for friends and family who were deployed in the military. A cassette (!) of the message as it ran was then mailed (!) to the serviceman/woman.
Approximately 10,000 stations did that for Mothers Day yesterday with phoned in, recorded and played back messages for mom. Bringing back the Jamz promotion would be great. And here is one version as done by 97 Rock in Buffalo last November.
News That Isn’t Terrible
In late March after three weeks of just unrelenting bad news in my daily eblast, I did one that was just focused on “Shiny Happy Promotions!” Nothing about COVID.
And it pulled the 3rd highest numbers in the eblasts since I started tracking opens and shares in 2013.
Many people are just not watching the news because it’s so depressing. So JACK in Vancouver has started a new feature.
Birthday Drive Bys
About once a week you’ll see some birthday “thing” where a bunch of fire trucks will parade past a little kids house. Hot 102.9 in Dayton is using the concept to frame birthday “bag” deliveries.
Share The Good & Senior Showcases
A couple of new spins to things that people have begun doing. 96.1 NOW-FM in San Antonio is having people tip the station to just regular folks in their community who have stepped up and are helping out.
And Jeff and Jenn at Q-102 in Cincy are on with more tributes to the Class of 2020.
