February 25th
I’m sending out “stuff that you could maybe sell for February” tomorrow. I don’t know how you could sell “Talk Like William Shatner Day” which is the 25th but finally we can move on from Talk Like A Pirate Day. (36) Kevin Pollak Does William Shatner - YouTube
Love Is In The Air
98.9 The Bull in Seattle is going to give away Air Buds and air fryers for Valentines, and thank you to Scott Mahalick for the imaging. KNUC_LoveInTheAir-pack by cprpromo (soundcloud.com)
The other angle, 11 months into people spending “lots of quality time with their spouses”, would be to give away His & Her Noise Cancelling Headphones for Valentines. Just a little tiny break of private time, uninterrupted by the dogs barking or the vacuum cleaner or the drier or the fact that you suddenly discovered after a decade of marriage that your spouse chews ice…(my friend Cindy’s latest gripe about her husband working from home.)
The Meditation Station
We’ve been ahead of the curve on officing and schooling from home. Our daughters were home schooled and I’ve been home since 1992, so this wasn’t TOO big of a shock to the system. But we’re in the minority. I have one friend who I think is on the verge of a nervous breakdown with four kids at home, and another in DC who posted a meme yesterday where she was about to FLIP OUT: her 8 year-olds music class requires that he play the recorder.
It could be as simple as a daily affirmation that “You’re going to get through this.” (36) Daily Affirmation: St. Patrick's Day - Saturday Night Live - YouTube
Or a mantra like “K.I.T.”: keep it together. (36) Bowfinger - Keep It Together - YouTube
It could also be a daily, late afternoon virtual yoga class. Or even just some meditation. Or a midday Moment Of Calm. Just a “take a deep breath, bask in the beauty of the world, try Goldschlagger for the first time, smell the flowers, maybe go and buy your first pack of cigarettes since 1994…” Deep breath….exhale.
A Virtual Cheerleading/Danceline Competition
Some states have sports. Some don’t. Some have cheerleaders that are active right now and some don’t.
As we continue to look for things that can be done “remotely”, a Spring-prior-to-graduation competition is something that could be done remotely and safely.
These are events that I’ve seen done in university gymnasiums, malls and even car dealer parking lots. There’s a title sponsor and sponsors for the gift bags for all the boys and girls.
You need:
- Judges. Actual darn humans who have cheered/danced and bring some credibility to the table.
- Trophies.
So not a lot of hard costs.
In terms of the judges, I’ve used women from either pro or semi-pro sports teams and once members from a university squad. They were spiffed with food trade. (This is not Rocket Science)
So, if you have an April or May hole on a Saturday, recruit on air and with invites to the local schools, have them do their performance/routine from the safety of their own school gym or field, have it Facebook Live’d or done via webcam to your site, announce the winners. Drop off trophies at their schools and create a delivery method for getting the gift bags to all of the schools. (I saw Target once as the sponsor and they loaded the bags up with hair and makeup)
In The Beginning….There Was “Palentines”
