Yummy Bunny
“Secret Sound” has been done in a myriad™ of ways. And it works. Every time.
Wired 96.3 did something called “Orajel Idol” when they swabbed the receptionist’s mouth with the stuff, leaving her a drooling mess. And then they had her sing station songs that you had to ID to win.
These two young woman have gotten over 350 million views on Youtube with food challenges including Chubby Bunny. All your research is right there in the stats.
A few stations have done it for Bieber tickets and it killed.
Three Weddings And A Podcast
I remember when Hot in Norfolk hired a young intern from the Kane show to go and learn how to be a DJ and she just blossomed into this amazing talent. When AMP in Boston finally started to add in bodies, I told the PD about her and he replied “She doesn’t sound like a DJ.” Actually, I thought that was her best qualification. So she returned to Hot 95.5 and shortly owned Nights in that market. Now, Elizabethany, Kruz and Riley from the station are all getting married. Boom. There’s your podcast.
The Publishers Clearing House
We were discussing “stuff that Radio would screw up” at WWRS last year and PCH came up. I think the consensus was that we’d run a 17 second wrap-up promo sans winner audio because it doesn’t pass the Listeners Benefit Filter.
Hot in Ft. Wayne did a bunch of Bieber trips and each one was a surprise for some girl at her home or school or at a party. The pay off videos were exceptional. WPGC, when they did Tweet To Your Seat, ALWAYS got the visceral payoff hidden cam video of someone dashing up, asking the correct person and the correct phrase, and then losing their minds. Ditto with every Fugitive chase where the capture is a well-orchestrated and planned ballet with the single goal of getting a video and good audio for the promo that was pre-produced and ready to roll.
106.5 The Arch wrapped up a 15K giveaway and surprised their winner at work. My personal favorite part: her list of how she intended to spend it.
Innuendo Bingo
This is fantastic and a regular feature for when BBC 1 gets celebrities in the studio. Some station really needs to do this in the US.
