Boomer Naturals
They’re providing a TON of free masks to stations that are doing events for COVID Remembrance Day. One of the stations has sold in a healthcare partner and will be getting their masks branded and sponsored for a candlelight vigil and chalking event: people using chalk to leave tributes on the pavement at a ceremonial bridge lighting. The station and sponsor will be paying for the logos.
So that is another possibility but with a little over a month, you’d want to get that kind of special order in soon.
Senior Pets
If you are a Pet Person, than you are really a Pet Person. You’re generally not wishy washy about it.
Everyone does pet adoption stuff. And you should. But if everyone is doing something, you need a hook. Dave Lee at 94.9 Star Country in Roanoke is focusing on senior dogs and trying to get them into homes for the last few years of their lives. Take A Hike
A sociologist says that 2021 will be “The greatest summer ever.” His term and he’s applying it to how people are going to treat the summer. With relief and celebration.
People will be outside. And in one market last year that meant hiking. So the station did “Take A Hike” and did hiking shoes and nut mixes and backpacks and bags.
A station in a very mountainous market starts it in two weeks with things like Yeti coolers and water bottles and shoes. If you have mountains and that’s what the audience does, then it’s a hot button so push it.
Boats & Jet Skis
Conversely if you have lakes, play to that.
Y-94 in Fargo does a jet ski every summer. They haul it around to events, people get their photo with it, share it and are entered for a draw in late July so they still have some time to get some use out of it.
Boats are great if you have a marina or aquatic client.
One of the stations here had a bass boat, sponsored it by Leinenkugels and it was a fixture at their Thursday afternoon lake broadcasts.
Did you know that bass fishing is a big deal in Namibia? It is. So Radiowave got a boat, filled it with prizes and you had to guess the TOTAL value of the boat and all of the swag to win it. That’s a GREAT prize.
And let’s not forget inflatable toys? It’s definitely a thing in Minnesota. Something bouncy for your lake cabin. So Hubbard awarded one during an “ice melt” contest. A big inflatable swan. It was pretty cool.
Casting Couch
And then you have fishing. If fishing is the thing, then get some Cabela’s giftcards or other gear to have fun with. Or what about working with a bait shop and award $1000 In Worms. Say that on the air and people will listen to find out what the Hell you’re talking about.
There are a LOT of great “Show Us Your Deer” contests but Dick Broadcasting in Myrtle Beach did “Show Us Your Catch.” And what fisherperson DOESN’T post their catch? Great. Now share them with us.
One of the Stingray stations did Casting Couch where they had listeners at a sporting good store cast at targets from a couch. The best score won product from the client AND the couch to sit on and regale their friends with tall tales during the cold winter months.
