Halloween
This came up in a meeting on Monday and was quickly followed by two stations that have Halloween “attractions” looking for promotions.
There are people who celebrate Halloween as a religion. It’s their one night of the year where they get wild. Kind of like a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Whatever you do for Halloween can’t be just a club gig. There are people who went without last year and are probably ready to go absolutely flipping nuts this October 31st. So whatever you do needs to reflect that. If you’re unfamiliar with The Exotic Erotic Ball, let me know and I’ll walk you through it. It’s the nuke. It’s the event that literally crushes every other Radio event in the market.
Socially Undistanced
Obviously, every station in every cluster with every company and in regards to the current situation in their market, has a different comfort level with what they’re willing to do or promote.
One of the stations is doing a party board ride on a lake and used the term “normal summer”, which I think is great. After last year, people are beginning to do the stuff they normally do.
With things like party boats and clubs and fests, sticking “socially undistanced” in the copy would be a way to emphasize that we getting back to having fun again.
Another Olympics Bit
I was telling one of the clusters that in the course of some “the morning show tells their secrets” feature, Jenni at Hot 89.9 in Ottawa revealed that for her first gig, she’d lied on her resume for her first job in Thunder Bay: they wanted someone who go also do high school hockey play-by-play. And she knows nothing about hockey. Fortunately Hot hired her before she made her debut.
So…they had her do a few minutes of “calling” an NHL game. They basically turned down the volume. Hilarity ensured™.
With the Olympics coming up, it would be fun to have the Alpha Male of the staff trying to do a play-by-play of rhythmic gymnastics or synchronized swimming.
