Mission Statements
Everyone has had a food or alcohol experience that has caused them to shun that product for the rest of their lives. (Bugles in 4th grade). I was “off” mission statements for 20 years following a United Broadcasting corporate meeting. But then I saw this at a car dealership. Not necessarily a mission statement but 7 words that they stand for, in big letters on the wall. Note that there is no reference to “undercoating” or “warranty” ---- Transparent. Joy. Virtue. Friendly. Promise. Services. Neighbors.
Just Under The Wire
This past weekend for their contesting, Kiss in Dallas put it in the hands and mouths of the designated callers: they needed to say “106.1 Kiss-FM” 4 times in 5 seconds to win.
Bills
Since 90% of Radio seemingly pays them, sometimes it’s good to focus in on a product or service. Like Kiss in Albany doing “$1000 in Pumpkin Spice Lattes” last Fall.
During a heatwave, it’s brilliant and a no-brainer to pay AC bills, which is what they’re doing at 96.1 NOW-FM in San Antonio. Listen To Win $1000 AC Bill Pay! | 96.1 NOW | 96.1 NOW (iheart.com)
Love-A-Palooza
One of my favorite Marketing Directors had a degree in Psychology and once said that “the best promotions are basically lab experiments where we torture the contestants for the pleasure of the audience.”
Dating can be one example. ‘PXY in Rochester did Mix & Match For Mraz and had listeners match up 5 guys and 5 ladies for a night out including the show. AMP in Calgary during the Paul Kaye era once sent a woman and two guys, all three blindfolded, on a 22 hour RT limo ride to see a Katy Perry show in Vancouver. They never saw each other and when they got back, on the air, she picked the guy for her next date and they dropped the blindfolds.
Mojo at Channel 95.5 is sending a winner to Lolapalooza and will be picking his/her date for the weekend in Chicago. Love-a-palooza | Channel 955 | Mojo in the Morning (iheart.com)
Hometown Heroes
Since COVID began, Radio has done an exceptional job with honoring heroes and it is a possible “play” for your 9/11 recognition: honoring the people in our everyday lives, the epitomize that spirit.
Live in Fredericksburg has a legal client that’s been doing that for years. Allen & Allen Hometown Heroes Program | Richmond, Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, and Petersburg | Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen (allenandallen.com)
