What The Fall?
As referenced last week, Secret Sound has always been a really solid contest methodology since, pretty much, forever. And stations like 98.9 The Bull in Seattle have done localized or zero’ed in versions like “sounds you’d hear at the Washington State Fair.” Or 99.7 NOW-FM did it as The Secret Sounds Of Summer and did sounds specific to the Bay Area during the summer. Like a ball dropping into McCovey Cove.
Fall has it’s own distinct sounds too. “Dum Dum suckers being rattled around a plastic pumpkin.” “A pumpkin getting scraped out.” “Raking leaves.” “Pouring pumpkin spice latte into a ceramic mug.” “A football clanging off a goal post.” “Flushing out the water in the plumbing at your summer cabin.” As a few examples.
“Radio DJ Scores The Highest Lipid Count In Iowa History, Film At 10.”
From Max Schaeffer at iHeart in Des Moines:
Our Iowa State Fair is back in full force. We sent our WHO Radio 9-11a host, Jeff Angelo, out to eat ALL 63 new food items in 11 days at the Fair! We call it the #FullAngelo and it is sponsored by Mr. Electric, an Iowa company who loves the electricity this content and social driven idea provides.
An October Gallery Contest
Beasley in Philly has done pet costume galleries and they’ve always been huge.
One of the morning hosts was wondering about maybe soliciting and doing a gallery of ghost photos from her listeners. THAT would be pretty cool and you could sell it to whatever haunted attractions are in your market.
Michael O’Shea with Sonoma Media in Santa Rosa has some really cool “porch cam” footage of something kind of floating around. This is Gretchen with the Red Cross in Portland on her wedding day, returning from getting her hair done. She thinks the orb is her father.
And the Christmas after my friend Karla passed away, some of her friends got together…and they think it was Karla who photobombed her boyfriend.
“Paranormal” works. Look at what’s on the satellite networks in October. I’d be surprised if the Golf Channel doesn’t have a ghost show. This would get some eyes on page if you think pet costumes and kid costumes are played out or too many stations in the market are doing them.
