Awww….” Inspiring
Joe Bell with Beasley in Philly, Dan Seeman with Hubbard in the Twin Cities, Patrick Davis with iHeart in Dallas and JJ Ryan with KJ103 in OKC are among the people who come to mind when I think about people who continually have their radar up. They’re always looking for things that they can do something with.
And Patrick found one on Sunday in the form of an email from a woman: Hello! I’m the principal of a small nonprofit for children on the autism spectrum. I’m writing because one of my young students is a huge fan of your station and was beyond excited to have tickets to attend jingle ball. Like he comes into school every.day with a count down for us, has the line up memorized and has been practicing all the songs he is sure the artists will sing. Sadly he was admitted to Cook Childrens on Thursday with major rare complications with the shunt in his head to control the amount of fluid in his brain. He is going to be having surgery soon and will likely miss the concert. I wondered if you might be able to get a signed picture for him or something tangible for him to not feel like his different medical needs have made him so different he is missing out on the concert experience. I’m sure you get notes like this all the time and can’t help everyone but I had to try for my buddy! Thank you, Jennifer ----
Patrick’s message to the team was: “I want to do something here…any ideas?”
We quickly put together some actionable stuff (the show was Tuesday night) and the artists were ready to roll and go over to surprise him, but the surgery couldn’t wait.
So…they’re flying him to NYC for the Z-100 show.
WE have so many advantages over vibeless music delivery systems. You should always be looking for this kind of stuff. And it DOESN’T have to be a trip to New York. It could be –
- A surprise visit from Santa. Cost? Zero.
- Rebranding the station for the day. Cost? Zero.
- Do a Flash Choir and invite the audience down to carol from their front lawn. Cost? Zero.
- Or put together a parade. You will see that a couple of times a year where a community will surprise a vet or sick kid and have fire trucks and cops and music and people decorating their cars. Cost? Zero.
Porch Pirates
‘Tis the season to ruin someone’s Christmas.
I’m on a social media group for my little corner of extreme northeast Washington County and there have been just tons of posts of doorbell cam pics of people stealing packages.
Staci & Hutch at KS95 and Danny Wright at 97.7 The River do “The Jacked Up Person Of The Day”. It has it’s own jingle. It’s great.
What if you did The Porch Pirate Of The Day? Every day take a photo that was submitted and post to your social media with the neighborhood where it happened. Maybe catch a crook while you’re at it. And people love amateur sleuthing.
Holiday Break-In
Mandy and Jimmy are kicking off their own version of Breaking And Entering at Hits 106.3 in Lexington.
It’s like Wish in that they solicit and then use the listener who submitted the family as their accomplice. Unlike Wish, there’s no press and no promos. It will be done anonymously and with no note. And that’s often been a hurdle with some Programmers: they don’t want to feel like they’re exploiting someone else’s run of bad luck.
