Back To Back
Cat Thomas once did Menage-A-Gaga, which were three songs that played in order to win Gaga tickets.
‘QYK in Tampa did the PS5 In A Row: five songs that played in a row to win a gadget.
Live in Portland is keeping it simple: two Shawn Mendes songs played back to back.
Intern John’s Lost Tour
Intern John at Hot 99.5 in DC is gifted with the Art of Comedy, or: He can get a room full of people to laugh. So in 2016 when a friend was diagnosed with cancer, he did some performances to raise money for the Fisher House Foundation which helps military families dealing with a medical crisis. And he’s raised $50,000 for them so far.
He’s got another tour with dates locally and also as far away as Louisville and Tampa.
This is exceptionally cool and also is a lot more compelling than just posting a link and asking people to donate. Intern John's Lost Tour! | HOT 99.5 | Your Morning Show (iheart.com)

In 2022, Ideas sell Spots. Beasley in Las Vegas was able to migrate an insane amount of “We don’t advertise on the Radio money” to Radio. With one idea: Spot The Pot (Hole). Alert Mike & Carla about pot holes that need to be filled…and some of the worst will get to the top of the city’s list. And someone will get $100 to a pizza place.
Excited Winners
Let’s face it, only about 4% of our audience participates in our contests. So, if, let’s say, a station increased their number to 6%, that would be astronomical. But since much of our contesting is wallpaper, it’s going to stay that way until you really do something to engage them. One way is to have listeners sell the contest.
Jerry Clifton had a great line: “The only reason to do contests is to make promos and air excited winners.”
With digital entries, you don’t get the excited winners. But, to be fair, there are a lot of prizes that are great but people aren’t going to lose their mind and be exuberant because they won.
97 Rock in Buffalo doesn’t just have Metallica tickets but also an upgrade to GREAT seats and an autographed set list. So…Joe is doing call-in contesting four times a day. Joe: “Real human voices and names are important to me.”
