KFMB/San Diego, CA - 2007 - Present1) How did you get your present job?
I think hell froze over? Tracy Johnson shocked the world when he announced he was leaving KFMB. (Plus Gina Landau and I hit it off immediately at KFMB).
2) What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
KBEQ (Q104)/Kansas City..."The #1 Hit Music Station."
3) What do you like best about your job? Least?
After spending three years with Susquehanna, working for a family owned company again (Midwest Television Inc) is fantastic.
4) For someone vacationing in your market, what one thing would you say they "must see"?
Coronado...it's beautiful.
5) What is your favorite radio station outside of the market and why?
I've always loved KROQ/Los Angeles. Now I can actually listen in real time when in L.A. They're consistent innovators!
6) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff?
Matt & Eric at Jack FM in Calgary.
7) What do you enjoy most about music scheduling?
Hearing it play back the next day.
8) Do you have any music scheduling tricks you've learned that you wish to share?
Take the time to define your "primary," "secondary," and "tertiary" music styles (sound codes) and highlight them accordingly in your music logs, so you can note the strength of each hour at a glance. (Music Master has made this easy).
9) What is the best prospective employee package you have ever received?
It's been a few years ago, but I received what looked like a DVD movie for Ferris Bueller's Day off, but it was a resume....Brilliant!
10) What's the best piece of advice anyone's ever given you? The worst?
At the end of the day..."Does it move the needle?"
