1) What led you to a career in radio? Was there a defining moment, which made you realize "this is it"?
With a background in theatre, it was a natural move to someone who loves being "onstage."
2) What makes your station or market unique? How does this compare to other markets or stations you have worked at?
For a small/medium market, there's lots of format variety.
3) How do you position the station musically and why did you choose this direction?
We are a mainstream AC and position ourselves as an "at work" station.
4) How do you stay in touch with the latest music trends?
Mediabase.
5) How have music file sharing services, affected the way you program to your audience?
At this point, if we don't have product form record companies, we use the old walmart.com approach.
6) If you are wearing more hats this year than last, what area is suffering and how are you handling that?
Trying to keep up with the rigors of PD life, and give the proper attention to my airshift.
7) What can we be doing with our station web sites to better our stations as a whole?
Make them less cluttered and more user-friendly.
8) How is the relationship between programmer and record label changing? For better or worse?
For me, worse. I don't like "pushy" conversations, or music reps telling me that I have an accountant's mentality when I won't put their songs on right away.
9) How do you feel about the new royalty rate increases for terrestrial and Internet Radio?
IT STINKS! We pay enough money for music licensing already.
10) Where do you see the industry and yourself five years from now?
Industry wise, probably more HD radio. I think (hope) the industry will get back to "live and local." I think radio is suffering from all the "long distance" impersonal voice-tracking. Me? Broadcasting from somewhere in the Rocky Mountains.
