1) What was your first job in radio? Early influences?
My first job was writing jokes for Ross Brittain at Z-106 in Philly. He paid me $6 and hour. I was thrilled to learn radio from the master and get paid for it!
2) What led you to a career in radio? Was there a defining moment, which made you realize "this is it"?
No joke...I got into radio to meet women. I met a popular DJ once at a nightclub. There were six hot women who were lined up to meet him. He was skinny, ugly and dumb as dirt. BUT, he was on the radio. Enough said.
3) What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?
I received my B.B.A in Finance. I was all ready to hit the market as a broker.
4) How did you get your present job?
I spent 12 years across the street at KRBE. Then Clear Channel made me an offer I couldn't refuse!
5) Do you have any musical guilty pleasures?
I actually listen to our sister station (Sunny 99.1) this time of year. They play Christmas music 24/7. To be totally honest, it's kind of relaxing. (Just don't tell anybody).
6) How do you interact with your sales staff?
I'm very involved with our sales crew. Most jocks avoid the AE's. But the more money we can make for the station, the more valuable we become. It's imperative to brainstorm on client promotions as often as possible.
7) How often do you go out on sales calls and what is your role?
I go out on sales calls almost once a week. As I mentioned earlier, morning guys have got to get involved. Our input can help make or break a promotion or ad campaign.
8) Please describe the best or worst promotion you've ever been part of?
We have quarterly event called Sammy's Singles. It's a giant singles event that has produced 26 marriages and 20 kids. That's the best promotion ever. Bring people together to find love, get married and make more listeners! The worst promotion?...too many to mention!
9) Who would be your dream guest on the show?
Don't laugh, but I've really tried to get Christie Brinkley, Martha Stewart, and George Strait. I've offered listeners $100 to get it done.
10) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Take responsibility for your mistakes ASAP!
Bonus Questions
1) What is your favorite TV show?
"The Unit."
2) Tell us what music we would find on your I-Pod right now and what is it you enjoy about that particular selection?
My iPod is loaded with "80's Hair-Band Rock!"
3) You just won the lotto and you have your boss on the line. What's the first thing that you would say?
" See ya tomorrow morning." Think about all the new material you'll have with your new-found riches!
