2004 WKHG/LEITCHFIELD, KY1) What was your first job in radio? Early influences?
My first job was a weekend position at KFTM/Ft Morgan, Colorado back in 1979. My early influences include Johnny London, Stu Brier at WICH, my and biggest influence was Don Daniels.
2) What led you to a career in radio? Was there a defining moment, which made you realize "this is it?"
Waking up at 5AM every morning to milk the cows, feed the chickens, listening to the radio and thinking, "That has to be better then this."
3) How have the recent FCC regulations impacted the way you program your music and the station's dialogue on the air? What are your feelings about these recent changes?
Not much affect at all. We program to be family friendly since K105 is a small market station. Even with our syndicated morning show Rick & Bubba very family oriented.
4) How do you feel terrestrial radio competes with the satellite radio and Internet these days?
Terrestrial radio still has the upper hand, its just what we do with it to keep the ball in our court.
5) How do you interact with your sales staff?
I feel communication between sales and programming is vital, so we hold a weekly staff meeting to keep those lines of communication open, I believe it works.
6) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff?
I've always enjoyed listening to John Lanigan, and Mike Trivasono, both in Cleveland.
7) What is your favorite radio station outside of the market and why?
It's been a while since I have been able to listen, but 3WS in Pittsburgh, PA has always been a very cool radio station to listen to. They do everything well.
8) If you could add any one full-time position to your budget with no questions asked, what would it be?
Since we are a small market, a utility person: a fulltime on call person to do whatever, whenever.

10) Of all the skills you have gained through the years, is there an area you'd like to improve?
There always seems to not be enough time in the day to get it done. So, time management always needs improvement.
