Make it look like you are having fun doing all this. Laughing equals winning. Work hard but share your plans to play hard and have fun on the weekends. Not extravagant plans but just plans to have a great time with the staff.

November will start improving for some bad reasons for radio: As folks go bankrupt (i.e. Mervyns), they turn to the medium that moves product: Radio. In an interesting testament to 'what works' ...when the retailer that used all these other mediums way too much can't take it any longer, they go out of business and flood the radio airwaves with their going out of business messages in time for the holidays and clean house. This proves radio works and is stimulating other retailers to move to radio to defend their holiday season. TV Networks have held out as long as they can. They will cut other places to stay on the radio. Too important to their existence to not be on the radio in November sweeps.

Enthusiastically look for ways to run your station more efficiently. Not a begrudging cut of expenses but say to yourself, 'How can we lose weight and feel great.' And this is subtle message that we are on the hunt for the FAT. 90 day probation works wonders: Gives folks a fair chance to improve or more time than expected to get a new job. Plus lets others no that you are working in a no-surprise environment so they do not worry in this economic climate but rather focus on doing their jobs better than ever as we need it.

New ideas and new packages are going to improve our economy and radio, especially inside of it. Package your assets in new ways to get folks excited about using the medium and making more sales calls.

Make your new wake up time 4am in this new economy. Beat everyone to work each day and set the example of needing to both work harder and smarter in today's climate. If your Monday AM starts with a sales call in a category that is going to be relatively strong in the "edited economy," you are headed the right way for the week to hit your goal of seeing 20 customers/prospects per week, belly button to belly button. Lead by example: Get a Monday AM sales call set up now for next week if you do not have one today. Time is our most 'short supply resource' in the 'edited economy." Monday AM tends to be a wasted sales time that we can no longer afford.
