Do your homework on FM News/Talk. After the Jack, Bob and Movin' wave hits, every market there is going to be the next "right answer." For those of you with the second or third-rated Rock station in the market, this could be your growth engine for 2008. Did I mention it's a political year? Talk radio will be the recipient of any political dollars available first. A hard look at the format on FM is worth it. Someone has to be first; it might as well be you! (P.S.: No, I don't have any skin in the format. I'm just looking at trends.)

Do you have a car HD radio? I do and in my opinion the coverage of these signals is awful! HD has a lot of issues, but if the signal is bad, none of the content matters. Do yourself a favor, buy a car radio and drive the signal. Then call corporate and tell them to work the FCC for more power. Don't get me started on the rest of this "new" technology.

Every once and awhile I ask that you think about the Public File. Is it up to date with EEO, job postings, licenses and political requirements? Check and feel secure that the most boring part of the job is done for the quarter.

Do you have all of your early spring promotions and revenue locked up? Walk back into the promotions department and look at the event calendar to see if the stations are going to be active. Compare promotional activity to revenue during the two weeks of "Spring Flings;" I bet you will find a correlation, good or bad. Don't forget next week is Valentine's Day.

Fall books have been rolling out. As with yesterday's Super Bowl, there is always a surprise you didn't expect. (Did anyone in New England expect the Giants to win?) Do you have a coordinated plan on how you break out all the Fall book information and distribute it to the sales department, the market and your clients? Take control of the way in which the information is presented. Rremember, you don't want your competition "spinning" or "positioning" the Fall book to "your" clients. Make sure your sales people are armed with facts, not ratings trash talk!
