You can add GREENSBORO to the list of "WOLF" wins. In addition to KANSAS CITY (WDAF), SEATTLE (KKWF) and PORTLAND (KWJJ), ENTERCOM Country WPAW (THE WOLF), while losing 12+, beat legendary CLEAR CHANNEL rival WTQR among adults 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54.
18-34: When CLEAR CHANNEL flipped WGBT from Rhythmic to Spanish Adult Hits in FEBRUARY of last year, they conceded the 18-34 demo to ENTERCOM Urban WJMH, which is No. 1 by over a two to one margin. Ironically, it's WGBT that is No. 2 as "LA PRECIOSA" continues to perform very well despite sliding 4.1 shares this book. In third place is DICK Top 40 WKZL (+0.8). In fourth is 'KZL sister CLASSIC ROCK WKRR (+3.3), who is in a three-way tie with WPAW (+0.7) and ENTERCOM Adult Hits WSMW (+1.0). ENTERCOM Urban AC WQMG (-1.3) now ranks seventh. WTQR falters 3.3 shares (-43%) and drops from third to eighth in demo. Ninth was CLEAR CHANNEL Urban AC WMKS (+0.8), while CLEAR CHANNEL AC WMAG (flat) and CURTIS News/Talk WZTK (+0.2) tie for tenth.
18-49: WJMH scores a 1.8 gain and climbs into double digits, and growing their lead. Over three shares back in second was WQMG. WPAW holds steady in share, but actually rises from fifth to third in rank, tying them with WKZL (+0.6). WTQR loses 1.2 shares and slips from third to fifth, putting them in a three-way tie with WSMW (+0.1) and WGBT (-1.5). WKRR (+1.1) ranks eighth. WMAG (+0.3) is now ninth, and WMKS (-0.2) rounds out the top ten.
25-54: WQMG loses a full share this book, but remains the market leader 25-54. WJMH adds 1.1 shares to its winter number, but surges in rank from No. 8 to No. 2. Meanwhile, WPAW, which was off 0.2, holds in third place, giving ENTERCOM the top three stations in the 25-54 cell. WTQR loses 0.6 and drops from second to fourth. WPAW has overtaken WTQR in just three books. There's a tight race for the No. 5 spot, with WMAG (+0.3) tying with WSMW (-0.1). WKRR (+0.9) climbs to seventh. WKZL (+0.8) now ranks eighth. WGBT slips 0.2 but drops from seventh to ninth. Rounding out the top ten, and off a share, is DAVIDSON Classic Hits WTHZ.
Raleigh: G105 On The Rise; Radio One Cluster Remains Solid
18-34: RADIO ONE Urban WQOK gained 2.7 shares to take over the top spot 18-34. CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WDCG (G105), which moved to the top spot 12+ - also posted nice gains across all demos. G105 was up 5.3 shares to climb well into double digits and grab the second spot 18-34. CURTIS Country WQDR (+0.6) remains in third. CURTIS Regional Mexican lost 7.5 shares (over half their audience) 18-34, as they dropped from first to fourth. Was this a sampling issue? CURTIS Rock WBBB (+1.1) climbed from sixth to fifth.
18-49: G105 soared 54% this book 18-49 and moved from fifth to first as they close in on a ten share. WQOK remained second, while growing a half share. WQOK posted a nice 1.5 share increase, but held on to third place. RADIO ONE Gospel WNNL (+1.8) rises from seventh to fourth. WBBB (-0.5) moves from sixth to fifth despite being off a half share. RADIO ONE Urban AC WFXC did have an off book, sliding 2.8 shares to move from third to sixth. WYMY drops 5.8 shares and plummets from first to seventh, tying them with CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits WRVA (+1.4) and CAPITOL Hot AC WRAL (+1.0). Rounding out the top ten is CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic AC WKSL (-0.4).
25-54: WQDR takes the top spot (moving up from second), after gaining 0.9 shares. Tied for second with identical 1.3 share gains are G105 and WNNL. WQOK (+0.5) ranks fourth, while WRAL vaults from eighth to fifth with a 1.7 share gain. WFXC (-3.5) drops all the way from first to sixth. Memphis: Clear Channel Urban Stations Rule
African American targeted stations notched the top five positions 12+ and 25-54 in Memphis this book with CLEAR CHANNEL owning four of them. Meanwhile, FLINN Top 40 WHBQ posted solid gains, while ENTERCOM's recently acquired cluster from CBS is in a rebuild mode.
18-34: CLEAR CHANNEL Urban WHRK gained another 1.5 shares to move north of a 15 in demo and holds the top spot yet again. Second was FLINN Urban rival KXHT (+1.7). FLINN sister WHBQ almost doubled their shares and moved from seventh to third. In fourth place, was CLEAR CHANNEL Urban AC KJMS (+1.4). Sister GOSPEL WHAL had an off book 18-34, moving from second to fifth. In sixth was CITADEL Country WGKX, who was off 52% from the winter, tying them with sister Urban AC WRBO (-1.6). CITADEL Rock WXMX (+1.9) saw a nice gain in the cell to rank eighth. Tied for ninth were CLEAR CHANNEL Urban Oldies WDIA (+2.2) and ENTERCOM Rhythmic AC WSNA (+1.5).
18-49: WHRK moves from second to first, and was off just a tenth. KJMS (+0.1) and KXHT (+1.2) tie for second, although they were 2.5 shares behind WHRK. In fourth was WRBO (+0.1). Sliding from first to fifth was WHAL (-4.1). Moving up 2.1 shares and climbing from ninth to sixth is WDIA. WGKX slides from third to seventh (-2.4). WHBQ nearly doubles 18-49 and vaults from 13th to 7th (+2.3). ENTERCOM Hot AC WMC-FM rebounded a bit (+1.6) and is now eighth. WXMX (+0.8) comes in ninth, and tied for tenth (and flat) are CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock WEGR and ENTERCOM AC WRVR.
25-54: While CLEAR CHANNEL's Urban stations were dominant, it was CITADEL Urban AC WRBO that claimed the top spot 25-54, moving up 0.3 from the winter. KJMS (+0.7) was second, WDIA (+2.4) surged to third. WHRK (-1.3) was off slightly and moves from second to fourth. WHAL (-4.7) slides from first to fifth. WGKX is off 1.1 shares and now ranks sixth. A good book for WMC-FM 25-54, as the station climbs 1.8 shares and moves from tenth to seventh. WEGR (+1.8) climbs from No. 12 to No. 8. Sliding from sixth to ninth is WRVR (-0.8), while KXHT ranks tenth.
Other notes/thoughts: One has to wonder whether ENTERCOM may take one of their stations and put Country on it, especially with the huge success of the "WOLF" brand this book in several other markets. WSNA ranks 14th 25-54 and WMFS is 17th.
