San Antonio: KISS "Powers" Their Way To #1 Sweep
COX Rhythmic KPWT (POWER 106-7) pulled just enough shares in the SPRING book from UNIVISION rival KBBT to help sister Active Rock KISS move into the top spot among adults 18-34. KISS also topped the market among adults 18-49 and 25-54, to nail the clean sweep. Meanwhile, CLEAR CHANNEL Country KAJA topped COX rival KCYY in all three demos.
As in several other markets, AC did not perform well 25-54 in the Spring book.
18-34:KISS was up three tenths, while KBBT lost 1.3 shares, giving the COX outlet a victory by just four tenths. KAJA (+1.2) moved from fifth to third. In fourth place was UNIVISION Regional Mexican KROM (+0.8), while CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KXXM slid from fourth to fifth, despite a 0.7 gain. KPWT nearly doubled their 18-34 shares this book, and moved from No. 12 to No. 6 (+2.2). This was enough to get KPWT in the game and also push KISS past KBBT. In seventh was UNIVISION Spanish Adult Hits KCOR (RECUERDO), which gained 1.4 shares, tying them with KCYY. BORDER MEDIA Spanish Contemporary KRIO (+2.4) was ninth, while sister Rhythmic Oldies KTFM (+0.9) rounded out the top ten.
18-49: KISS held on to the top spot here, thanks to a 0.4 gain. KBBT also posted a gain of 0.3 to rank a solid second. The top three were status quo as KAJA (+0.6) ranked third. Moving from a tie for fifth in fourth was KROM (+0.5). KCYY (+0.3) holds in fifth place. In sixth was KXXM (+0.2). Sliding from fourth to seventh is LOTUS Classic Rock KZEP (-1.2). KTFM scores a solid gain 18-49 and moves up 1.6 shares to move into the eighth spot. BORDER MEDIA Adult Hits KJXK (JACK-FM) is up 0.5 to finish ninth. COX Classic Hits KONO (-0.1) winds up tenth.
25-54: KISS surges 1.4 shares to move into the top spot 25-54, as KAJA (-0.9) slides to second. Tied for third are KONO and KZEP (both up 0.3), and both tied for third in the winter. Moving from eighth to fifth is KJXK (+0.8). UNIVISION Tejano KXTN (+0.7) now ranks sixth. KBBT (-0.4) slides from fifth to seventh, where they are tied with KCYY (+0.1), KROM (+0.7), KTFM (+1.3) and CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WOAI (+1.3).
Other notes: As in several other markets, AC did not perform well 25-54 in the Spring book. CLEAR CHANNEL AC KQXT fell from No. 7 to No. 12 in demo (although they were only off 0.2). COX Hot AC KSMG has really fallen, now ranking 15th 25-54.
Austin: "Que Buena" Launches Huge; 25-54'S KNOB Still On "Bob"
UNIVISION's newest station, Regional Mexican KLQB had its first book in its new format and debuted in the No. 1 spot 18-34, while also performing well 18-49 and 25-54. Meanwhile, EMMIS Adult Hits KBPA (Bob) was still tops 25-54.
18-34: KLQB debuted with nearly a nine share in demo, topping BORDER MEDIA Regional Mexican rival (-0.1). CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KHFI (-4.4) had an off book, but still ranks third overall, and also ranks No. 1 among English stations. CLEAR CHANNEL Country KASE (+2.3) moves from seventh to fourth. EMMIS Rhythmic KDHT (+0.2) was up slightly in share but dropped from third to fifth. EMMIS Classic Rock KLBJ-FM (-0.6) is now sixth, while Alternative KROX (-0.9) from fourth to seventh. ENTERCOM AC KKMJ (+1.2) is eighth. BORDER Rhythmic KXBT (-0.4) moves from eighth to ninth. KBPA, CLEAR CHANNEL Country KVET, and BORDER MEDIA Spanish Contemporary KXXS.
18-49: KASE (+0.6) moves from third to first. KLQB makes a stellar debut in second place. KHHL (+1.0) grew despite the sign-on of KLQB and now ranks third. KLBJ (-0.9) slides from a tie for third to fourth. In fifth was KBPA (-1.2), off from No. 2 18-49. KHFI (-2.4) moves from No. 1 to No. 6. KKMJ (+0.8) moves into the seventh position. In eighth place was KVET (+1.2). KDHT was flat but moves from sixth to ninth in rank. In tenth place was ENTERCOM Hot AC KAMX (+0.2).
25-54: KBPA was off 1.2 shares, but was able to hold the No. 1 position. KASE posted a 0.6 gain to finish just a tenth behind KBPA. KLBJ-FM (+0.1) is now third. KKMJ scores a nice half share jump to move from fifth to fourth. KHHL (+0.4) moves into the fifth spot. A solid book for KVET which moves up 1.5 shares and climbs from eighth to sixth. KLQB debuts in seventh place. EMMIS Talk KLBJ-AM (-1.3) was off and no sits in eighth place. EMMIS Triple A KGSR was up 0.4 to take ninth, while KAMX (+0.1) finished tenth.
Jacksonville: Clear Channel, Cox Lead Market In Key Demos
CLEAR CHANNEL and COX split top honors as their clusters controlled the top end of the marketplace in the SPRING book as usual.
18-34: CLEAR CHANNEL owned four of the top five spots 18-34. Urban WJBT was off 2.2 shares, but was still just under a 12 share and was the only station with double digits. In second place was sister Top 40 WFKS (-2.0). WFKS beat COX Top 40 rival WAPE (-0.1) by 2.3 shares. CLEAR CHANNEL Country WQIK (+0.3) and Alternative sister WPLA (+0.2) round out the top five. RENDA Country WGNE (+1.8) moves from No. 13 to No. 6. Sister AC WEJZ (+1.0) was seventh. COX 80's WMXQ, NORSAN Regional Mexican WVOJ-AM and CLEAR CHANNEL Urban AC WSOL, round out the top ten.
18-49: WJBT was off 0.6 shares, but still claims the top spot. WQIK (-0.2) is second once again. A sharp move for COX Classic Hits WJGL (+1.3) as they vault from tenth to third. WFKS is fourth (-0.5), while WEJZ (+0.9) and WPLA (-0.3) tie for fifth. WAPE (-0.2) ranks seventh (and they trail WFKS here by a half share). WAPE was tied with WSOL (-0.5). In ninth place was COX News/Talk WOKV-AM & FM (-1.2). Rounding out the top ten was COX Classic Rock WFYV (-0.9).
25-54: WOKV is the winner here, climbing a full share and knocking WQIK out of the top spot. WJGL (+1.9) surges from sixth to second. WQIK (-0.6) drops from first to third. WEJZ (+1.1) holds in fourth despite a solid gain. WSOL slides a half share and drops from second to fifth in rank. WJBT (-0.3) now ranks sixth. WPLA ranks seventh 25-54 (-0.5), falling from sixth in the winter. WAPE (+0.2) moves from ninth to eighth, and topped WFKS in this cell. WFYV was off 1.3 shares to move from eighth to tenth.
Norfolk: Urban Stations Lead Key Market Demos
18-34: CLEAR CHANNEL Urban WOWI surged 2.4 shares to grab the top spot 18-34. MAX MEDIA Country WGH surged two shares as well to move into the No. 2 position, passing the winter winner -- ENTERCOM Rhythmic WNVZ, which fell 3.5 shares and now sits in third place. ENTERCOM sister Urban AC WVKL climbs 0.8 to claim the fourth spot and another ENTERCOM property, Hot AC WPTE (-0.2) rounds out the top five. SAGA Active Rock WNOR (-0.2) holds in the sixth spot. MAX MEDIA AC WVBW (+4.4) gets a huge 18-34 spike to rank seventh. In eighth place is SINCLAIR Alternative WROX (+0.3). ENTERCOM AC WWDE, doubles their share 18-34 and moves to ninth, while MAX MEDIA Rock WXMM is tenth.
18-49: WVKL surges 1.4 shares to grab the top spot 18-49. WGH-FM (+1.8) moves from a tie for third into second. Climbing a half share, but sliding from second to third is WOWI. WNVZ loses 1.7 shares and slides from third to fourth, putting them just a tenth of a point ahead of WNOR (-0.5) and WPTE (-1.1). Surging 2.5 shares and moving from 14th to 7th is WVBW (which puts them ahead of format rival WWDE). SAGA Classic Rock WAFX (+0.2) ranked eighth. WWDE gains 1.6 shares and is now ninth, while WXMM (+0.3) rounds out the top ten.
25-54: An nice win for WVKL here. The station actually grows another 1.6 shares and scores double digit numbers here. VKL is on top by a big margin, and key to the growth is the STEVE HARVEY morning show. WGH posts a 1.5 share gain to rank second. WAFX performs well 25-54, climbing 0.8 to finish third. WVBW is the top AC in all three demos, and actually climbs 1.8 shares to rank fifth overall (up from a tenth place tie in the winter). WKUS (+1.3) moves into sixth. Moving from fifth to seventh is WKUS (-0.7). WNOR slides from fourth to eighth, losing 1.2 shares. WWDE (+0.9) now ranks ninth and a flat WXMM is tenth.
