SAN FRANCISCO: KSOL, KFOG DEMO CHAMPS
UNIVISION Regional Mexican KSOL grabbed top honors in the two of the three target demos: adults 18-34 and 18-49. Meanwhile, CUMULUS AAA KFOG soared into the top spot 25-54, knocking out former champ KOIT and nosing out KSOL by two-tenths.
KFOG won the 25-54 war, increasing 0.7 shares and nosing out KSOL (-0.1).Among adults 18-34, KSOL and KMEL were one-two. KMEL Top 40/Rhythmic sister KYLD was off considerably (1.7 shares) in the demo, slipping from second in the Winter to third this book. SBS Regional Mexican KRZZ was fourth (+0.1), while CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC KIOI (Star 101.3) climbed 1.1 shares to move into the top five, tying with CBS Alternative KITS (-0.1). Cumulus Classic Rocker KSAN (+1.1) ranked seventh; UNIVISION Spanish Adult Hits KBRG (+0.1) and sister Latin Urban KVVF (+0.1) were eighth and ninth, respectively. CBS Hot AC KLLC (+0.3), tied with KOIT (which was off 1.8 shares) for 10th. With so many Spanish-language and AC stations in the top 10, there appears to be a major hole for another 18-34 station in the market. CBS Rhythmic AC KMVQ posted a nice 0.6 gain in the demo to land in the top 15.
In the 18-49 demo, KSOL and KMEL were far ahead of the pack. KOIT was a distant third, after sliding .9 shares, tying them with KSAN. KYLD dropped from a tie for second to fifth, losing 0.8 in this book. KFOG (+0.1) and KRZZ (-0.6) tied for sixth. KIOI (flat) held steady for seventh place. KLLC posted a nice 0.4 gain to rank ninth, while Giants flagship and CUMULUS Sports outlet KNBR (+0.7) rallied to the 10th spot. KMVQ saw tremendous growth here, increasing 75% book-to-book to move over a 2 share in the demo to rank 16th.
KFOG won the 25-54 war, increasing 0.7 shares and nosing out KSOL (-0.1). KOIT slid 0.3 and dropped to third. KNBR surged 0.9 to fourth place, while KMEL and KSAN tied for fifth. CITADEL Talk KGO (who has been No. 1 12+ for over 100 books) fell out of the top five 25-54 and slipped 0.2 to seventh place. A good book for KLLC here; they gained 0.4 to rank eighth. INNER CITY Urban AC (-0.3) was ninth. Tied for tenth: CBS news KCBS-AM (-0.1), CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic AC KISQ (-0.5) and KRZZ (-0.6).
Other items of interest: After a modest debut in only part of its first book, ENTERCOM Country KBWF ranked 15th 18-49 and 14th 25-54 - both on par with the Winter book - but a decent improvement from the Adult Hits format a year ago. KMVQ saw growth across the board. In addition to the aforementioned ratings 18-34 and 18-49, KMVQ saw a solid 0.8 share increase 25-54, putting them just shy of a 2.0 share in demo.
DETROIT: WRIF NO. 1, BUT CC SCORES THREE OF TOP FIVE 18-49, 25-54
GREATER MEDIA Active Rock WRIF was the leader in the 18-49 and 25-54 cells in Detroit. WRIF was up 0.7 in the 25-54 cell. However, CLEAR CHANNEL's trio of Urban AC WMXD, Urban WJLB and Top 40 WKQI all placed in the top five in both demos.
18-49: WRIF (+0.6) was up this book and finished nearly a share ahead of WJLB (+0.4). WKQI (+0.1) finished three-tenths behind WJLB, while WMXD had a strong gain of 0.6 shares to finish fourth. Soaring 1.3 shares to grab the fifth spot was ABC Hot AC WDVD. CBS Country WYCD (+1.6) surged into sixth. The top six stations were essentially in the five share range or above. After WYCD, we drop off into the mid-three range to find RADIO ONE Urban Oldies WDMK (+0.3) in seventh, CBS Smooth Jazz WVMV (+0.4), CLEAR CHANNEL AC WNIC (-0.4) and ABC Adult Hits WDRQ (-0.6) -- all tied for eighth.
25-54: A nice book for WRIF here - as they grow 0.7 - to move well north of the 7-share range. WMXD was up a half-share, but still trailed WRIF by almost a share. A distant third -- and under a 5 share -- was WJLB (who was up 0.3). WYCD enjoyed a stellar move (+1.0) to rank a solid fourth; they have almost double the shares of CLEAR CHANNEL rival WDTW-FM (-0.8), which ranks 17th. WKQI was fifth (up 0.2) to finish the CC hat trick in this demo as well. A nice book for WDVD, which moved up 1.1 shares to eclipse the 4-share mark in demo. WVMV was off a tenth for seventh. CLEAR CHANNEL AC WNIC slid 0.4 and now ranks eighth (although GREATER MEDIA AC rival WMGC ranks 15th). Speaking of GREATER MEDIA, Classic Rocker WCSX (-1.5) and WDMK (+0.2) tied for ninth.
18-34: CLEAR CHANNEL's WJLB (+0.7) nosed out sister WKQI (-0.1) by just a tenth this book, but both stations eclipsed the 10-share mark in the 18-34 cell. WRIF was a distant third (-0.3). A huge move for WDVD, which jumped 2.4 shares to rank fourth. WYCD was off 0.4, but rounded out the top five. Alternative CIMX plummeted 2.3 shares (losing almost one-third of their audience this book); it now ranks sixth -- finishing just ahead of RADIO ONE Urban WHTD (-0.6). WMXD (-0.5) ranked eighth. WDTW slid 1.7 shares to ninth and WDMK (-0.2) tied with CBS FM Talker WKRK (+0.3) for 10th.
BOSTON: WXKS, WJMN LEAD 18-34, 18-49; BEANTOWN LIKES "MIKE"
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WXKS-FM and sister Top 40/Rhythmic WJMN are the top-two stations in Boston among adults 18-34 and 18-49, while they take the third and fourth slots among adults 25-54 in the Spring book. Meanwhile, ENTERCOM Adult Hits WMKK (Mike-FM) showed nice growth 18-49 and 25-54, placing top five in both.
Starting with 18-34s, WJMN is No. 1 with slightly under a 14 share, while WXKS scored double-digits as well to rank second. CBS Alternative WBCN enjoyed a solid book, boasting a 2.5 share gain, yet it was a distant third. GREATER MEDIA AC WMJX was fourth (-0.6), while ENTERCOM Active Rock WAAF (-0.7) fell behind WBCN and now sits in fifth place. WMKK (+0.4) finished sixth. Tied for seventh are CBS Hot AC WBMX and Entercom Sports WEEI (both up 0.7). GREATER MEDIA Country WKLB (-1.0) and CBS Classic Rock WZLX (-0.1) tied for ninth.
In the 18-49 cell, WJMN led the pack as well with just a hair under an 8 share. WXKS was off sixth-tenths, but still ranked a solid second. WMJX was third (-1.0), while WEEI surged 1.1 shares to place fourth. Rounding out the top five 18-49 was WMKK (+0.9). WBCN also scored a nice 1.3 share gain to move into sixth place, just one-tenth behind WMKK. WAAF was off 0.2, but it dropped from fourth in winter to seventh in the Spring book. WBMX (+0.2), WKLB (+0.2) and WZLX (+0.5) all tied for eighth.
With adults 25-54, WEEI improved a full share to pass WMJX (-0.9) for the top spot by just a tenth - despite the fact that Red Sox radio broadcasts have moved back to WRKO. WXKS (-0.5) was a strong third (just two-tenths behind WMJX). WJMN was off 0.8, but was still fourth. WMKK had a nice Spring book, growing 1.3 shares and moving north of a 4 share in demo to climb into the top five in the money demo. WZLX (+0.8) was sixth. Meanwhile, CBS News WBZ was off 0.8, while claiming the No. 7 spot 25-54. GREATER MEDIA Classic Rock WROR (+0.1) and sister WKLB (-0.1) tied for eighth, while three stations tied for 10th: WAAF (+0.3), WBMX (flat), and CBS Classic Hits WODS (-1.2).
