Here is a recap of some select PPM market highlights from SEPTEMBER 2010, compiled by dmr for ALLACCESS and powered by Xtrends, radio's #1 PPM and diary analysis tool.
Country Is Cookin' In The UPPER MIDWEST
Like MILWAUKEE-RACINE, MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL went Country in SEPTEMBER with CLEAR CHANNEL Country KEEY (K-102) holding on to its #1 position, tied with CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Mainstream KDWB at 8.3. K-102 also held position in the top 3 in every key demo.
NORTHWESTERN RADIO Christian AC KTIS had a big month with double-digit percentage share increases in all demos, moving the most in ranking from #13 to #9t P35-64.
The Top 40s took the bulk of P18-34 listeners with KDWB at #1 and NORTHERN LIGHTS Top 40 KHTC (96.3 NOW) at #3. CITADEL Active Rock KXXR was between the two at #2.
What women want: While HUBBARD AC KSTP-F (KS95) and CBS RADIO AC WLTE (LITE 102.9) were tight at #3 and #4 W25-54, and #2 and #3 respectively with W35-64, it’s Country K-102 that topped both demos.
The MINNESOTA TWINS’ run to the playoffs made both TWIN CITIES Sports stations pretty irresistible to MEN, with HUBBARD BROADCASTING Sports KSTP-A (1500 ESPN) #5 and CLEAR CHANNEL Sports KFAN’s #6 with M25-54.

Lots Of Winners In ST. LOUIS -- Huge Breakout For KLJY
You can find a different winner in almost every demo in ST. LOUIS in SEPTEMBER. CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KSLZ (Z107-7) took top honors P6+ with a 7.5, followed by RADIO ONE Urban WHHL at 6.8 and CBS RADIO Talk KMOX-A at 6.3. GATEWAY CREATIVE BROADCASTING Contemporary Christian KLJY exploded after a SUMMER signal upgrade, with 400% growth in almost all demos since a year ago (See Snapshot Trends below).
EMMIS Alternative KPNT (105.7 THE POINT) led P18-34, followed by Z107-7 and WHHL.
P25-54 was led by BONNEVILLE Adult Hits WARH (THE ARCH), followed by THE POINT and CBS RADIO Hot AC KYKY (Y98).
At the upper end, the classics ruled with THE ARCH at #1 P35-64, followed by CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO Classic Hits KLOU-FM/(REWIND 103.3), Y98, EMMIS Classic Hits KIHT (K-HITS), and EMMIS Rock KSHE.
BONNEVILLE Country WIL-F and CLEAR CHANNEL Country KSD were so close that KSD led P18-34, but WIL-F led P18-49.
Lots of choices for adult women when you consider the format variety from #1 through #5 W25-54: Y98, KSLZ, THE ARCH, KLOU, and KLJY.

Hard As Steel -- WDVE Is Tempered
CLEAR CHANNEL Rock WDVE had a grip of steel on PITTSBURGH in SEPTEMBER with a 10.1 P6+, almost three full shares ahead of #2t CBS RADIO Talk KDKA and CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WKST (7.4), and #4 CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits WWSW (7.1).
Format battles: In the AC arena it’s among CBS RADIO Hot AC WZPT (STAR 100.7) winning at the low end (#2 W18-34), RENDA AC WSHH winning with the upper demos (#4 W25-54), and STEEL CITY MEDIA Hot AC WLTJ hung around behind the other two in both demos.
STEEL CITY MEDIA Adult Hits WRRK (96.9 BOB-FM) and CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits WWSW (3WS) could feel each other’s breath near the top with WRRK (#2) and 3WS (#6) P25-54, while they were tied (#3) P35-64, with 3WS getting the nod by virtue of better male numbers M35-64 (#3 vs #4).

Rock Rolling In DENVER-BOULDER
CLEAR CHANNEL Active Rock KBPI (#1 P18-34) and CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock KRFX (#1 P25-54) were demo champs in SEPTEMBER, posting huge increases over year-ago numbers. KBPI was up 74% versus last SEPTEMBER (P18-34) and KRFX was up 34% (P25-54) compared to a year ago.
Formats: ENTRAVISION Regional Mexican KXPK led the Spanish language formats (#2 P18-34, #4 P25-54), ahead of ENTRAVISION’s Spanish Adult Hits KJMN (#5 P18-34, #8t P25-54).
ENTERCOM AC KOSI (6.0) led ENTERCOM Hot AC KALC (ALICE 105.9)(4.0) and WILKS Hot AC KIMN (3.6) P6+, but they traded positions in demo with ALICE and KIMN tied at #4 W18-34, while KOSI was #15. Flip ‘em again in W-25-54 as KOSI, ALICE, and KIMN rank #1, #2, and #3.
In the Alternative world, CLEAR CHANNEL Triple A KBCO (#3 P25-54) beat out CLEAR CHANNEL Alternative KTCL (#5t), but KTCL won P18-49 and P18-34 (#4 in both vs. #8t and #12t for KBCO).
