Exclusive PPM Analysis October 2010: Chicago, Boston And Seattle

Here is a recap of some select PPM market highlights from SEPTEMBER 2010, compiled by dmr for ALLACCESS and powered by Xtrends, radio's #1 PPM and diary analysis tool.

CHICAGO October 2010: And Now, The News

News and News/Talk benefitted from the crossroads of a bad economy and election season in CHICAGO in OCTOBER. Three of the top five stations were News/Talkers with CBS Radio WBBM-A #1 P6+ with 6.2, CLEAR CHANNEL Urban AC WVAZ (V-103) second (5.2), TRIBUNE Talk WGN-A was third (4.6), and CITADEL Talk WLS-A and BONNEVILLE Hot AC WTMX tied for fourth (4.3).

Since flipping from AC to 80s oldies in June, BONNEVILLE Oldies WILV (Rewind 100.3) has realized some steady growth, particularly with WOMEN, adding 31% to their W25-54 share over the past three months, and rising from #7t to #4 in the demo since the flip (see Snapshot Trends below). Meantime CLEAR CHANNEL AC WLIT (93.9 LITE FM) drops to 6th as BONNEVILLE Hot AC WTMX (101.9 THE MIX) maintains its #1 spot.

MORNINGS: While THE MIX’S ERIC & KATHY are #1 P25-54, look out for EL CHULO DE LA MANANA on SBS Spanish WLEY-FM (107.9) who has rocketed from #9 to #2 over the past three months.

BOSTON October 2010: BOSTON Loves KISS, The PATS

CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WXKS-F (KISS 108) dominated in BOSTON in OCTOBER going #1 in every key demo, including a 9.5 P6+. CBS RADIO News-Talk WBZ-A was #2 with 7.3 and CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/R WJMN (JAM'N 94-5) was third with 5.7.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS flagship CBS RADIO Sports WBZ-F (THE SPORTS HUB) has been on a roll (see Snapshot Trends below), gaining ground on ENTERCOM Sports WEEI-A, even besting them (#5 vs. #20 P18-34, #9 vs. #14 P18-49) in some demos.

SEATTLE-TACOMA October 2010: The Ladies Make STAR #1

FISHER RADIO Hot AC KPLZ (STAR 101.5) was #1 P6+ in SEATTLE-TACOMA in OCTOBER, buoyed by their only other #1 demo- a big one- W25-54. Tied for #2 P6+ were CBS RADIO Country KMPS and CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Rhythmic KUBE with 4.8.

It’s a battle for WOMEN in SEATTLE with ENTERCOM Alternative KNDD (107.7 THE END) #1 W18-34, CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KBKS #1 W18-49, STAR 101.5 #1 W25-54, and CBS Classic Rocker KZOK #1 W35-64.

CBS Adult Hits KJAQ (96.5 JACK FM) continues an upward trend (see Snapshot Trends below) moving to #1 P25-54 and to #2 P35-64, just behind KZOK.

MORNINGS: What does it say about a market whose #1 MORNING show (P25-54) has nobody on it? JACK-FM has done it, and that probably also explains why KZOK went up to #1 P36-64.... BOB RIVERS left.
