NEW YORK October 2010: NEW YORK Stays The Course
Just say "ditto" for NEW YORK'S Top-5 stations P6+ in OCTOBER. CLEAR CHANNEL AC WLTW (106.7 LITE FM)(6.5), CBS RADIO Classic Hits WCBS-F (5.5), CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WHTZ (Z100) (4.7), CBS RADIO News WCBS-A (4.4), and CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic AC WKTU (4.3) were ranked 1 through 5, exactly as they were in SEPTEMBER. LITE FM also repeated by taking the #1 spots in P25-54 and P35-64.
EMMIS Top 40/R WQHT (HOT 97)(#1) and Z100 (#2) flip-flopped their positions in P18-34, though Z100 maintains its Top 40 position of dominance in P18-49 and P25-54. CBS RADIO Top 40 WXRK (92.3 NOW) dropped to #7 P18-34.
Classic battle with the classics: CBS RADIO Classic Hits WCBS-F (#4) nudges past CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock WAXQ (Q104.3) (#5) in P25-54 while WCBS-F maintains its lead in P35-64 (#2 vs. #3).

LOS ANGELES October 2010: KIIS At The Top, KOST Coming On
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Mainstream KIIS was #1 in LOS ANGELES in OCTOBER (5.7 P6+), followed by CBS Oldies KRTH (K-EARTH 101) (4.7) and by CLEAR CHANNEL AC KOST in third (4.5) on a strong upward trend (see Snapshot Trends below). KIIS dominated in other demos, too, at #1 P18-34 and #1 P25-54.
KOST has surged over the past three months with nearly 40% share growth in P18-49 and P25-54. And KOST has done just as well with women, climbing from #5 to #2 W18-49 and from #4 to #2 W25-54 since SEPTEMBER. A peek at the MARK & KRISTIN morning show numbers shows huge growth over the past few months, moving from #12 W25-54 in JULY to #5 in OCTOBER.
Lots of players for 18-34 ears with multiple Top 40, Alternative, and Spanish language stations comprising most of the Top 10. KIIS (#1), EMMIS Top 40/Rhythmic KPWR (POWER 106) (#2), and CBS Top 40 KAMP (AMP 97.1) (#4) vied for Top 40 honors. CBS RADIO Alternative KROQ (#3) and CLEAR CHANNEL Alternative KYSR (98-7FM) (#6t) have traded positions relative to each other in the demo over the past four months. And Spanish language formats couldn’t be tighter with four of them separated by less than one share: LBI Regional Mexican KBUE was #5, SBS Regional Mexican KLAX (LA RAZA) was #6t, UNIVISION Regional Mexican KSCA was #8 and UNIVISION Spanish AC KLVE was #9.

WASHINGTON D.C. October 2010: Capital City Is News Capital
Three of the Top 10 stations P6+ in WASHINGTON D.C. in OCTOBER were News stations, with BONNEVILLE News WTOP taking the top spot with 8.8. AMERICAN UNIVERSITY Public Radio WAMU was #6 (4.8) while CITADEL Talk WMAL was #8 (4.3). WTOP was strong with upper demos, too at #2 P25-54 and #1 P35-64.
Formats:
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WIHT (HOT 99.5) (#1) and CBS Top 40/Rhythmic WPGC (#3) both added shares in P18-34, though HOT 99.5 was the stronger upper demo performer, growing in P18-49 and P25-54.
RADIO ONE Urban WKYS wins young (#2 P18-34) versus HOWARD UNIVERSITY Urban AC WHUR (#7) and RADIO ONE Urban AC WMMJ (#12t), but WHUR beats WMMJ P25-54 (#3t vs. #5) and P35-64 (#3 vs. #4).

ATLANTA October 2010: V-103, News/Talk WSB Peachy In Atlanta
COX News/Talk WSB and CBS RADIO Urban WVEE (V-103) were at the top in ATLANTA in OCTOBER, tied for #1 P6+ with 8.2. V-103 and News/Talk WSB were #1 and #2 P25-54, and News/Talk WSB held the top spot P35-64. OCTOBER was the first month that WSB-A's simulcast on NOW 95.5 FM News/Talk WSB was combined on one line by ARBITRON, displaying as WSB-A. OCTOBER ratings for the WSB simulcast are at or slightly above year-ago numbers for WSB's AM-only programming.
V-103 was the strongest in a strongly Urban market at #1t P6+, #1 18-34, and #1 25-54, though COX Urban AC WALR (KISS 104.1) beat V-103 in P35-64 (#2 vs. #3). RADIO ONE Urban WHTA (HOT 107.9) was #2 P18-34 while RADIO ONE Urban AC WAMJ was #9t P18-34 and #7 P25-54.
The Country battle between CLEAR CHANNEL Country WUBL (THE BULL) and CITADEL Country WKHX has intensified as THE BULL added to its slight lead P25-54 (#8 vs. #9t) and P35-64 (#7 vs. #9).
