1) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
Reading, hitting the gym and spending as much time as I can outside.
2) What's the best way to get your foot in the door?
Networking. Reach out to everyone you know in the biz send them an email...circle back around with them.
3) What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get a job?
I sent KROQ in LA an ammo can wrapped in wire with my demo tape and resume inside, with M&M's and Q-Tips... snacks to eat when you listen and Q-Tips to make sure your ears are clean. This probably would get me arrested now.
4) How are you finding the "courtesy level" at places you've applied? (Callbacks, emails, rejection letters, etc.)
For the most part, great. Just treat others like you would want to be treated.
5) Are you finding salaries/benefits lower than you ever thought, about the same, or have you seen some pleasant surprises?
They want a ton of experience (I have 25 years and a winning record) and pay you nothing.
6) What's the most unbelievable on air bit you were allowed to do?
Bobbing for buttplugs.
7) With consolidation there are definitely fewer jobs. How do you separate yourself from the pack?
I try to excel at social media and I'm willing to voicetrack a lot of stations and make them sound local.
8) Are you able to slow down and enjoy free time doing things with your family and friends that you probably did not have time to do while you were working?
I have seen my family more this year then I have in 25 years and it is true what they say...family is important.
9) What have you learned about yourself, others, or life in general in your downtime?
Finding a job to pass the time while looking for your next radio opportunity is tough.
10) Is there anything specific that you regret doing while you were still working?
Educating myself in other fields.
