BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Spent first nine years of my career with one of the original Alternative stations WHTG (FM 106.3), made my Top 40 mark as APD of WAEB (B104) for nearly three years, spent nearly 10 years with WSTW, and the last six years with Press Communications (on Thunder 106 and The Boss).
1. What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and to stay motivated?
I just try to focus on things that I can control, and always remember that you have to be your own #1 fan. This, therapy and golf is my formula.
2. How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
I have seen this as an opportunity to work on myself mentally and emotionally. I have lost 50 pounds, found sleep again, discovered yoga, and trying to be the best version of myself at this stage of my life.
3. Some people get discouraged or enlightened with the business when they actually step out of it for a while. Tell us your observations from the outside.
I have, for some time now, understood the business that I am in. It has not changed in that you can doing a great job but still could be let go. The business is subjective and you have to be mentally strong to survive. That will never change.
4. Do you plan on sticking with radio?
This business is my passion, my talent, my gift. I have not accomplished all that I set out to do, so I am sticking with this crazy ride!
5. What's the longest stretch you've had on the beach?
Six months. Though while I was out, was working for FedEx, and then something came my way.
6. What's the best way to get your foot in the door?
I really do not know! I think you just have to believe in yourself and channel positivity.
7. What has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
All Access Music Group ... and this is not sucking up!
8. What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get a job?
To be determined. I'm currently still campaigning for a gig.
9. What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Open to ideas. I would do mornings again, but afternoons plus programming would be great as well. I just want to work and hopefully make a great salary.
10. Are you finding salaries/benefits lower than you ever thought, about the same, or have you seen some pleasant surprises?
Hard to say since I have always been in one region of the country, but in the Mid-Atlantic the story seems to be that companies will pay for good talent, so I'll say about the same with salary. Benefits may be another story.
Bonus Questions
Care to contribute a recipe for our "On The Beach" cookbook .......
Cocktail recipe that is low-calorie but will go down nice. Take your favorite vodka (I prefer Tito's), mix with Canada Dry flavored Seltzer (Pomegranate Cherry is my pick), and squeeze in a shot of Mio - yes. the stuff that flavors water. Get creative with the flavors to find what you like, and very little guilt on calories.
