BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
It all began when I decided to skip class for the day. I was in my last year in college majoring in Business, but my dream was to have a radio career. So to make use of my day, I decided to hop on All Access and take a look at the job board. On it was a post from the Adam Carolla Show, as they were looking for interns. After my internship with the show was completed, I stayed on for a few more months before heading over to KCXX/San Bernardino to produce the morning show. There I transitioned to become the Afternoon Co-Host for a few years before heading to Sirius XM to hop back into morning radio. Throughout my career I have worn many hats from: Host, Producer, Board Op, Production Director. Currently I am working part-time in LA radio and looking for my next full-time position.
1. What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and to stay motivated?
That entails me remaining creative and somewhat in the arena.
2. How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
I continue my creative endeavors by writing and producing short form digital content.
3. Some people get discouraged or enlightened with the business when they actually step out of it for a while. Tell us your observations from the outside.
No matter how many people try to say that this is a dying medium, I look and see how many people still love listening to high caliber local content and it encourages me to become a part of that once again.
4. Do you plan on sticking with radio?
Yes, this is something I have wanted to do since I can remember. I grew up "playing radio" and making my little sister the traffic reporter or a listener calling in to request a song.
5. What's the longest stretch you've had on the beach?
2 years
6. What's the best way to get your foot in the door?
Humble yourself and take that gig you believe you're too qualified for. If this is an industry you want to a part of then you'll do what it takes.
7. What has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
All Access, Indeed, and Personal Network.
8. What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get a job?
Luckily, nothing.
9. What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
To be part of a morning team, but until then I hope to land at place where I can contribute to the station's growth.
10. Are you finding salaries/benefits lower than you ever thought, about the same, or have you seen some pleasant surprises?
They're right in line.
