Please begin by giving us a brief career history ...
I started as the stunt guy for the Ethan and Omelette morning show on WRKI/Brookfield, CT. I soon was an associate morning show producer. Within two months I had a weekend on-air gig and within sic months I had Sat. morning, Sun. morning, and Sun. overnight.
Next was a 6p-midnight gig at WIXV/ Savannah GA. I was #1 in both books, with the highest Arbitron ratings for my slot in their 20-year history ...much of my story, including a newspaper article, is on my website www.cavemanradio.com
1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
If DLR and EVH can finally get back onstage together and tour for the first time in 22 years, I can get a new gig on-air! Beer, porn and Les Paul help, too.
2) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
Besides my horrific new gig as a licensed banker ...pushing steel for 90 minutes in the gym six days a week.
3) Some people get discouraged or enlightened with the business when they actually step out of it for a while. Tell us your observations from the outside.
Nothing beats getting paid to be yourself ... and wearing Levis and T-shirts to work is something you can't put a price on. "Real jobs" suck.
4) Do you plan on sticking with the music/radio industry?
Yes, it's like herpes. Once you get it, you have it forever.
5) What's the longest stretch you've had on the beach?
Eleven months ... never been fired!
6) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Nights in a top-50 market.
7) How are you finding the "courtesy level" at places you've applied? (Callbacks, e-mails, rejection letters, etc.)
Rarely do I get a response, but when I do it is usually, "Love your demo, but it's too edgy"....
8) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
Do they call you "Caveman" because of what you do in the bedroom?
9) What has been your biggest career accomplishment?
The highest ratings -- 11.8 (m25-54) -- in WIXV's 20-year history for my time slot, along with two #1 ratings in a row.
10) What do you miss most about music/radio?
Being paid to be me. The least? Stealing toilet paper from the station.
Bonus Questions
Uh, oh ... now you're on your own for getting new music. If applicable, name your three most recent purchases since leaving the biz.
Black Label Society "Shot to Hell," Ozzy Osbourne "Black Rain," Van Halen "Fair Warning" ... the old one was too scratched.
