Please begin by giving us a brief career history ...
I'm a talk radio personality most recently at WLIE. Talk News Top 20 radio talk hosts in USA, among "The Heavy 100" in Talkers Magazine. Syndicated in middays to over 30 stations nationwide. Previously heard on Sirius, WLUP/Chicago, KABC/Los Angeles, KLSX/Los Angeles, WKRK/Detroit, WWDB/Philadelphia, WTKS/Orlando. Former contributor to CNN's Talk Back Live, NBC News. Also appeared on ABC-TV's Into The Night.
1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
I perform stand-up comedy around the country. The live audiences keep you sharp and the immediate reaction keeps you motivated to give your best every night.
2) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
As I perform stand-up on the road, I have been visiting with morning shows to plug the comedy dates, and the bug to get back on the air has bitten me. It's a pretty deep bite, so I'm hooked again. My favorite visit was with The Monsters on WTKS/Orlando.
3) What has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
Friends in the industry and ALLACCESS.COM.
4) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
As I entered a prospective GM's office to interview, she began questioning how I got my teeth so white. I was stunned when she pressed me on my dental history after she lamented her own yellow choppers.
5) With consolidation there are definitely fewer jobs. How do you separate yourself from the pack?
I am a total entertainer. In addition to ratings successes and substantial media coverage, I thrive on live appearances and remote broadcasts, which help programming and sales.
6) Are you spending as much time listening to radio as you used to?
For sure. Morning, noon and night.
7) Are you able to slow down and enjoy free time doing things with your family and friends that you probably did not have time to do while you were working?
I keep a very busy comedy schedule, performing three to four times per week.
8) What has been your biggest career accomplishment?
It's a three-way tie. Beating Rush in the ratings for the first time, appearing on ABC-TV's Into The Night, and finding myself in Wikipedia!
9) Having been through all you have dealt with in this biz, what advice would you give people trying to break in?
Focus on a format and the stations in it that you feel best matched for you and then ... persevere!
10) How will this experience change you when you get back to work?
There's no doubt that when you leave a comfort zone and immerse yourself in a new creative project, your eyes are opened wide to new personality types and circumstances (like club owners, agents, bookers, audiences, etc.). Your previous skills are strengthened as you develop the new ones, but you don't realize that until you go back. When I visited with Russ and The Monsters, I felt I had never left the studio.
