Traffic.com/Chicago, PT Producer, Reporter, 2005-20071) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
I keep myself active in physical activities and team sports to keep me going after a goal. It also helps with overall life goals.
2) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
Working part-time jobs on a swing schedule. Off the clock, I keep up with radio and TV trends through AllAccess.com and other sources. I also hang out with a group of friends.
3) Do you plan on sticking with the music/radio industry?
Yes, I know the industry and my skin has grown too thick. I would like to learn more about the industry and go further in this career choice.
4) What's the best way to get your foot in the door?
Show an interest. I got into the field before even opening a textbook. I was a morning show contestant for WTAO in Southern Illinois, and, a year later, when I showed an interest in becoming a board op, the program director remembered who I was and hired me.
5) What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get a job?
A year after I stood outside in my boxer shorts for concert tickets, I went back to the same radio station to ask for a job.
6) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Assistant Program Director. I eventually want to be a PD in the Classic Rock/Rock area. I would like to get my feet wet in each position that the field offers, to have a total understanding of my career choice.
7) How are you finding the "courtesy level" at places you've applied? (Callbacks, emails, rejection letters, etc.)
Hit and miss. Sometimes you hear back, and sometimes you don't.
8) What have you learned about yourself, others, or life in general in your downtime?
I found that I am a person who looks forward to the next day and that I like to complete tasks correctly the first time. Communication should always be an unbiased way to complete any task.
9) If you were offered a similar position to what you were doing for considerably less money, would you seriously consider taking the job just to stay in the biz?
"Would I like to retake the 6th Grade? No." If any move is to be made, it should be forward, not to the side. We are all in this business to make things happen one way or another. For myself I would like to advance in my career choice.
10) How will this experience change you when you get back to work?
I have always had the vision that I can do and learn anything. The only thing holding me back would be an employer who thought otherwise.
Bonus Questions
1) What's your handicap now that you've had time to practice?
