BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
When I was in high school I managed to get on Van Halen's tour bus for a party. It turned out not being so cool, as my dad found me and had me removed and threatened to sue the band because I was a minor.
After that 10-minute experience on the bus, I decided the music industry was my path in life. I immediately threw away all college dreams and got my first internship at WMMS/Cleveland. I later would become the night jock there when all the '90s bands were breaking.
I later moved down to South Florida and perfected my trade on 949 ZETA, Big1059 and many other stations. I found a sweet spot for voicetracking as well. At one time I tracked 10 stations of all formats from Rock to Hot AC and even Country. I miss those days.
1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
Knowing that everything happens for a reason and the right opportunity will present itself at the right time.
2) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
Making the most of every moment! Quality time with my son and enjoying free time on a budget. And lots or "ME" time. Wow ... I am really sick of "ME."
3) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
If I would be open to posing in the radio edition of Playboy. For some reason I don't think I would be asked that question anymore.
4) With consolidation there are definitely fewer jobs. How do you separate yourself from the pack?
I have always been unique in my style! A mentor once said, "There is only one Jenn Wylde."
5) Are you able to slow down and enjoy free time doing things with your family and friends that you probably did not have time to do while you were working?
Yes and no. I am a busy-body. So I still have a very active lifestyle. I have had more time with my five-year old and we do lots of stuff together. I am in the best shape of my life. I have time to work out now. I even took up a pole dancing hobby. So I better get a gig soon or I might just need to use that for my living.
6) What has been your biggest career accomplishment?
If this was 1995 I would say interviewing Steven Tyler. Now it is definitely the charity work I have done, especially with Susan B. Anthony. It is a center for women who are getting their lives back and recovering from addiction. Most of the women are single mothers or pregnant.
7) What do you miss most about music/radio? The least?
There's nothing I don't miss ... I would kill to be hotlined by a PD. LOLI
8) What have you learned about yourself, others, or life in general in your downtime?
People don't get that when you are on the beach, it is insulting to ask for free concert tickets. On a deeper level, I have learned who my true friends in the biz are. Some people really stuck by me. I learned I made some life-long friendships in radio.
9) If you were offered a similar position to what you were doing for considerably less money, would you seriously consider taking the job just to stay in the biz?
Yes. It's my livelihood. My soul is crushed not doing what I do.
10) What great movies have you recently seen?
With all my time I have seen them all. I loved Social Network only because Trent Reznor did the score. It's brilliant!
