We've always strived to position our show as almost "life coaching" on the radio ... but we never lose sight of the fact that we are on music stations, so we need to get in, give the listener some great content, and let the station get to the next song. In other words, John consistently knows how to grab the listener's attention (there truly is a finesse to doing a great "tease") ... so that the listener will stay through the song ... and always follow it up the tease with a solid "payoff"

John Tesh's show is filled with inspiring and uplifting perspectives. What words of wisdom do you have for the Radio Rally Point audience about the strength and resilience of radio?
Scott: Always make your content compelling. Always. In this PPM world ... It's not enough to have just a chipper, cheery host, reading off the latest gossip. If you want to win, you need to give your listeners something that they can't get elsewhere.

John's show is heard across North America on multiple formats and dayparts. This gives you a unique perspective. What stands out?
Scott: My analogy with our show is that people tune in to The John Tesh Radio Show for the "Intelligence For Your Life" content -- and for John. Not specifically for the music. Our listeners look at our Intelligence For Your Life content as the main course on the plate, and the locally programmed music as the complementary side-dish. Don't be mistaken, if a station is not playing good music, the listener will tune-out. However, with John's show, they're specifically tuning IN for the Intelligence For Your Life content.
John will get personally involved to help an affiliate bring on a new advertiser. How can radio better leverage our star power to win more business?
Scott: Our syndication philosophy is to always super-serve our stations. This encompasses everything from making John available for sales-meeting calls with our affiliate's sales staff, to recording greetings to potential clients, to voicing spots and sponsor tags. Our goal is to not only get the show on our affiliate's station, but to also do everything we can to help our affiliates monetize the show locally. Their success is our success!
"Music and Intelligence for Your Life" is the tagline for the show. Where do all those factoids come from and what's the process for determining what makes it on-air?
Scott: We've got a fully-staffed research and content team in Los Angeles, headed up by my co-executive producer, Betsy Chase. Betsy's writers and researchers pitch content and stories to Betsy, who then curates the best content, and incorporates it into John's show.
As a syndicated show, how do you connect with local listeners and integrate John into the brand of the station?
Scott: We do this a number of different ways. My goal is to have John be woven into the fabric of our stations. This is accomplished through customized liners and promos, which our most proactive affiliates send us on a regular basis. We also make John available for morning show interviews with our affiliates. It bolsters the relationship with the station as a whole, as well as cross-promotes both dayparts – the morning show AND John's.
Facebook is a great way to reach our local listeners and tie them in to our local stations. John does Facebook Lives on a regular basis, and we also make John available to do a Facebook Live with jocks at our local stations. Our core demographic listeners are P1 Facebook users, and with our engagement, which exceeds 20,000,000 per week, we use that platform to bring more listenership to the show.
