1. What made you want to get into the music business and what was your first job?
My love of music was instilled in me by my parents and I always knew it was something I wanted to be involved in from a very early age. My first job was working for the late, great, Paul Yeskel at AIM Marketing in Old Bridge, NJ.
2. Can you walk us through your career highlights in the music biz with labels and positions up to now?
Aside from a couple of radio gigs at WKIP/Poughkeepsie, NY and WOBM in New Jersey, as well as the aforementioned AIM Marketing, my obvious career highlight thus far is being a part of the Land Shark Promotion Studio radio team.
3. How long have you been working with Gary Jay and Land Shark and what makes this job so cool?
I am starting year number four with Land Shark and what makes it so cool is the wide variety and the quality of artists and bands that we get to work with on a day-to-day basis.
4. Do you focus on any particular projects at Land Shark or are you involved with every promotion project for the company?
I am involved in all of our Active Rock and Classic Rock radio promotion projects, and since the majority of our work falls into those formats, I pretty much have a hand in them all.
Rob and DMC!!!5. Land Shark seems to focus on all aspects of Rock promotion from Active Rock and Classic Rock to Alternative. How do you effectively work in all three of these distinct formats?
If I've learned anything from being involved in as much as we are here at Land Shark, it is ... know your projects, know your stations, and know your people. The relationships that you forge with the visionary guys and gals who program radio that you deal with every day is the cornerstone to your effectiveness and success.
6. You've done rock promotion for years. What's your take on the current state of Rock radio?
In my humble opinion, I think the state of Rock Radio still has a bright future. There are a ton of new, up-and-coming bands that will push the boundaries of this format to make it even better. In an age of virtually unlimited choices, there is something out there for just about everybody.
7. Looking back, what are some of the most recent projects (over the last six months) that you've had success with and why?
I'd have to say that one of the more exciting projects we are currently working with, is the hit single from ATREYU "The Time Is Now." This song is an absolute monster and almost five months later, it continues to grow each week! We have had a number of exciting artists from the Spinefarm Records label that have been a real treat to work with, as well as killer stuff from Nuclear Blast, Epitaph, Hopeless, Roadrunner, and also some young, independent bands that are starting to make their mark, and build a legitimate radio fan base for the future.
Rob and Lita Ford!!!8. Who are some of the artists/projects you're currently working with?
Aside from ATREYU, we have some dynamite new singles from Hands Like Houses, Bring Me The Horizon, Light The Torch, Dorothy, Saul, and Boston Manor, plus our boys in Sevendust, Buckcherry and a handful of others.
9. Now for the future. Who are some of the new artists and projects we can look forward to hearing from Land Shark in the next few months?
Lucky for us, we have a bunch of really compelling stuff that's gonna be coming out in the next couple of months and I couldn't be more excited about 'em ... wait 'til you hear the new Puppy, Sylar, Alive In Barcelona, Deadland Ritual, and While She Sleeps songs!
10. Finally, what do you like to do for fun and relaxation when you're "not" in radio promotion mode?
When I'm not being "Radio Guy" I'm doing one of two things ... attending a concert (for fun), or kicking back with a 7&7 (aka "a gentleman's drink") and listening to one of the multitude of prized pieces of vinyl in my collection.
