October 13, 2020
Have an opinion? Add your comment below. There’s so much anxiety that comes with releasing new music. Will they love it? Will they hate it? I think of touring kinda like the celebration of the birth of this new music. And you’re going from city to city sharing the new babies with all the friends and family and letting the older kids visit as well.

1. With the state of the world this past year during the Coronavirus pandemic, tours have been put on the back burner for the most part, but you recently finished a big “Live From Home” Virtual Tour to help support local venues. What’s been the response to these shows?
The response has been incredible! It certainly took a few shows to get used to the awkward silences and lack of applause. I didn’t realize how much I depended on the crowd for the energy and flow of the show. After a couple shows it was clear that we had to cultivate that energy for ourselves and that would translate to everyone watching from home. We had a blast!
2. What do you miss most about touring?
The traveling. The social life. That rush of walking out on stage to a house full of people ready to scream your songs back to you. There’s nothing like it.
3. You’ve had success with your music at other formats besides Rock in the past, but Rock has always been your wheelhouse. What Brought on the move back to your roots?
I think every artist goes through experimental phases but I also went through periods of self- doubt . I was questioning my own abilities as a song writer so much that it was easy to get lost in chaos of chasing hits, chasing radio, chasing relevance, chasing the approval of peers and individuals who didn’t believe in me as a rock artist... that I just lost sight of what I truly wanted for myself as an artist. Making this album has been truly fulfilling so far and still have a ways to go.
4. Now let’s talk about your latest single “World On Fire” which is climbing the Rock charts. What can you tell us about the song and the great response so far?
The response has been more than we could’ve hoped for! The love at rock radio, the fans saying stuff like “it’s about time! Daughtry is back!” It just feels really good! It feels right!
5. What can we expect to see in the near future?
So much! Haha! We have so many things coming I don’t know where to start but I also can’t spoil it so... stay tuned!
The Daughtry Band- Left to Right- Elvio Fernandes, Josh Steely,
Chris Daughtry, Brandon Maclin, Josh Paul & Brian Craddock6. How did this song come about and what was the inspiration?
We wrote this back in January when Australia was burning. But there was a lot of build-up you know? Didn’t matter where you looked, the world was just hurting... The police brutality, the racial injustice, child trafficking... it was all just making our blood boil.
7. Your new video is like a scene out of Bladerunner, what was the inspiration?
I always envisioned this post- apocalyptic vibe for the video. It’s just what I saw in my head and Tyler Dunning captured that beautifully.
8. At the end of the video we see: to be continued. What happens next?
Well that would be just plain ridiculous to spoil that right here and now.... but know that something does in fact... happen lol
9. I’ve asked this question many times to Rock artists. There’s a definite difference between making a record and going out and playing it live in front of an audience. Many feel that the real work is making the record, and the fun part is playing it live. What’s your take on both of these processes?
Road mode and Studio mode. Haha! Yes. Both incredible experiences but I would say studio mode is more intense. There’s freedom to fail without the critics shitting on it yet... haha... You’re literally creating music that didn’t exist before and bringing it to life for the world to hear with the hope that your fans will tell you things like “it’s the greatest thing you’ve ever done” haha! There’s so much anxiety that comes with releasing new music. Will they love it? Will they hate it? I think of touring kinda like...like the celebration of the birth of this new music. And you’re going from city to city sharing the new babies with all the friends and family and letting the older kids visit as well lol.
10. When you aren’t in music mode, what do you do for fun?
I draw sometimes though not as much as I’d like. Watch movies, read comics, gym, sauna, coffee with my wife, hang with kids and chickens!
