Broadcast, cable and video news:
CBS CEO LES MOONVES talked to reporters at a media conference yesterday, telling them that he expects a "huge" audience for the fall premiere of "Two and a Half Men" and the debut of ASHTON KUTCHER.
Moonves said he expected the debut to rival the numbers for the AFC title game, which drew almost 55 million people to the boob tube. However, as Zap2It.com reports, the last time any TV show pulled those kind of numbers, it was the "Friends" finale back in 2004. We'll see.Stars and their (XXX-rated) movies:
Lots of speculation that JENNIFER LOPEZ's ex-husband, OJANI NOA, might release a sex tape of the "American Idol" judge after an L-A judge ruled last week that he would be allowed to release any home video that was shot while they were married.
As you might expect, that set off a bidding war between porn companies, all hoping to cash in on a video of J-Lo and her ex.Grace notes:
The "Late Show With David Letterman" will hold its first-ever "Drum Solo Week." Starting Monday, a different drummer will do his, or her thing on the stage of the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City. First up is ANTON FIG who has been the drummer with PAUL SHAFFER and the CBS Orchestra for many years. On Tuesday, it's SHEILA E. who has worked with PRINCE and many other artists. Wednesday's drummer will be legendary jazz man ROY HAYNES who kept the beat for CHARLIE PARKER, MILES DAVIS, JOHN COLTRANE and other greats. Finally, "Drum Solo Week" ends on Thursday with NEIL PEART of RUSH. (Marino)
Off the beaten path:
The South Korean army plans to stop using photos of KIM JONG-IL and his family for target practice.
The BBC reports troops in that country have admitted to using the pictures during shooting drills. At first, South Korea's defense ministry said it was up individual commanders to decide what images their troops shot at. But, now the army says the North Korean dictator is off-limits. (Still)Health and Medical Briefs:
A Chinese teenager has a new iPad 2, but it came at a very high cost. The high school student didn’t have the money --20-thousand yuan ($3171)-- required, so he sold a kidney.
According to the Global Times, the boy’s mom found the gadget and forced him to tell her where he got the money to buy one. XIAO ZHENG admitted to his mother he saw an ad offering cash to people who were willing to donate their organs. With the money left over from the iPad 2 purchase, the boy bought an iPhone and laptop as well!
The hospital where the boy reportedly had his surgery isn’t qualified for kidney transplants, but has admitted leasing out space to a private businessman. The black market trade of organs is a growing problem in China, with reports of so-called transplant tourists coming from rich countries to buy much-needed organs. (Page)Polling America:
