What's the Buzz:
Rockefeller Center and Madison Square Garden will be lit up in blue tonight. So will the Sydney Opera House in Australia and Tokyo Tower in Japan. The blue lights are to bring awareness to autism.
The Autism Speaks website explains blue was chosen because boys are four times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with the developmental condition.
This is the third year the organization has sponsored the Light It Up Blue event. Not everyone can light up an entire building, but it is easy enough to stick a blue light bulb in your lamp. At last check, 21,235 people have pledged to go blue for autism. (Page)Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
FERGIE celebrated her 37th birthday in Sin City last Friday night. People magazine reports the Duchess went clubbing with NE-YO and MICHAEL JORDAN and even helped out the DJ by doing shout-outs from the stage. The BLACK EYED PEAS cutie picked a winner when she married JOSH DUHAMEL --her handsome hubby treated his blushing bride to a pair of black diamond earrings to mark the occasion. (Lee)
Hip-hop magnate RUSSELL SIMMONS is launching a yoga brand. Women's Wear Daily says the lifestyle brand will be called "Tantris." It will include men and women's active wear, meditation beads, scented candles and mats. Long-term, he plans to expand into freestanding stores, studios and restaurants. Why yoga? It turns out that Russell's been practicing for more than 20 years. (Bartha)
The Reel Deal:
That controversial movie, "Bully," opened in five theatres over the weekend, doing pretty good business --around $23-thousand a theatre. Of course, the uproar over the MPAA "R" rating for the film continues, and Deadline.com reports that various schools and churches have reached out to The Weinstein Company for a PG-13 version.
At this point, the movie is being released unrated, and will be out in the top-25 markets Apr 13, with planned expansion later.Casting Call:
Can you see ASHTON KUTCHER as STEVE JOBS?
Daily Variety magazine reports the "Two and a Half Men" star will play the Apple co-founder in a new, independent movie called "Jobs," which will show his evolution from a wayward hippie to mega-mogul. Ashton will be filming the movie during his hiatus from the TV show this May.Grace notes:
13 items that belonged to WHITNEY HOUSTON were sold on Saturday. Julien's Auctions says the sale took in a little more than 80,000-dollars. A bustier Whitney wore on stage went for 18,750-dollars. Pearl drop earrings she wore in the movie "The Bodyguard" sold for 2,812-dollars, while a vest she also wore in the film went for 3,437-bucks. (Marino)
